Minuteman Meeting
Is Widely Attended
Ecology, inflation, and
conservation as they affect
the operation of electrical
utilities in the U.S., were the
topics for discussion at the
Central Georgia EMC meet
ing and dinner last Thursday
night. January 9th.
Franklin Rogers, guest
speaker for the Minuteman
dinner, presented the indus
try's picture of the above
problems.
Since the cost of borrowing
money and purchasing oil
and coal for fuel have
increased fourfold, we can
expect the cost of electricity
to increase four times over
what it was four years ago,
he said.
Likewise, if the industry is
to meet more stringent
ecological demands, the
public will have to be
prepared to pay the price, he
said.
Mr. Rogers, a rate consul
tant for Southern Engineer
ing Company of Georgia,
charged that the average
household spends more mo
ney on alcohol than electrici
ty. For the convenience
provided to them, he said he
does not expect consumers to
cut back production drasti
cally. (He said the average
American family spends two
percent of its income for
electricity).

A short course in saving money
on longdistance.
There’s more than one way to save money on long
distance phone calls. You just have to know the facts. Here are
4 easy ways to make every call a bargain.
Money-Saving Fact#l
THE
EVENING RATE
After 5 P.M. Sunday through Friday, you
can dial anywhere in the whole country
(except Alaska and Hawaii) for 3
minutes for just 85C or less, plus tax.
Money-Saving Fact # 3
THE
LATE NIGHT RATE
This very special rate is in effect from
11 P.M. till 8 A.M. every night of the week
and is lower than the evening rate. You
can dial direct anywhere in the whole
country (except Alaska and Hawaii)
for 3 minutes for just 75C or less, plus
tax. A special feature of the Late
Night Rate is the “Mighty Minute."
You can talk for one minute and it will
never cost more than 35C plus tax.
Share a smile. Dial Long Distance tonight. (£1) Southern Bell

THE
WEEKEND RATE
The Weekend Rates are even lower
than evening rates on out-of-state calls.
They’re in effect from 8 A.M. till 11 P.M.
on Saturday and 8 A.M. till 5 P.M.
on Sunday.
Money-Saving Fact #4
DIRECT
DIALING
Here’s the most important fact of all.
When you dial direct, you’ll always save,
no matter when you call. In fact, all of
these special low rates apply only
if you dial your own long distance calls
without an operator’s assistance.
(The only time low direct-dial rates do not
apply is on operator-assisted calls such as
coin, credit card, person-to-person, collect,
hotel-guest calls or calls charged to
a third number.)

What was the Mona Lisa thinking about when Leonar
do da Vinci painted her? Was she smiling? Some say that
she was actually closer to tears!
It is centuries since Leonardo and his model lived,
but throngs still stand before the painting in the Louvre
and wonder at it. It is much smaller than people expect,
but that in no way diminishes its attraction. For the Mona
Lisa symbolizes the mystery of life. No matter how great
our curiosity, we can never know all the answers.
There is a great deal of mystery in the Church too.
Often this bothers those who would seek a logical explana
tion for everything. That is where we need faith—for faith
is, in part, an acceptance of what we inherently feel but
can’t prove in ordinary, everyday terms.
Where to find faith? Admittedly, it can be quite a
quest. But a good place to start that quest is in church.
