AARP REPRESENTATIVE
SPOKE TO LOCAL
CHAPTER MAY 19TH
Miss Thena Hathorn, State
Representative for the
American Association of
Retired Persons, visited with
the Butts County Chapter on
Monday, May 19th, and spoke
to the members.
Miss Hathorn emphasized
that AARP objectives are to
serve and not to be served
and outlined the various
national programs available
to benefit communities as a
whole as well as AARP
members. Also, she assisted
in compiling the Triennial
Review Report which is
required after the chapter is
three years old. The Butts
County Chapter was organ
ized in March 1972 by
Reverend Sidney Odom. Mrs.
Flora Price served as
president for two years,
following Rev. Odom. Mrs.
Eva O’Neal is currently
serving as president and the
membership is seventy one.
Many benefits accrue to
the members including trips,
helpful programs, health,
life, and automobile insur
ance.
Through the courtesy of the
First Baptist Church the
chapter has been meeting in
the recreation hall of that
church. The Second Baptist
Church has invited the
chapter to meet in their
church for a period of six
months and the chapter is
very grateful for this help in
providing a place to meet.
National dues are $2.00 for
which members receive a
magazine and a bulletin
periodically with items of
interest to senior citizens.
Membership is available to
retired persons fifty-five
years old and older. Eligible
persons are invited to join the
chapter and if you are
interested call Mrs. Eva
O’Neal, 775-2255.
