Mr. Farrar
Buried At
Jenkinsburg
Mr. Marvin Bryant
Farrar, 73. of Jenkinsburg,
one of Butts County's most
prominent and widely known
citizens, died Sunday night.
July 27th, at his home
following a period of de
clining health extending over
at least two years.
He was born in Butts
County on February 4. 1902,
the son of the late Mr. C. H.
Farrar and Mrs. Emma
Bankston Farrar. Following
graduation from the Jenkins
burg School he attended
Locust Grove Institute.
During a long and active
business career, he at one
time was employed by the
State of Georgia, served as
an agent for the Bankers
Health and Life Insurance
Company, and for the past
thirty years served as a
self-employed salesman.
Active in civic and reli
gious affairs in his home
town, Mr. Farrar was a
former Mayor of Jenkins
burg and served on the City
Council for more than 35
years. He was a member of
the Jeninsburg United Meth
odist Church and served on
the Board of Stewards for
more than 35 years.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday morning at 11
o’clock from the Jenkinsburg
United Methodist Church
with the Rev. James Jack
son, pastor, and Rev. Orion
Hunt officiating. Interment
was in the Jenkinsburg
Cemetery with Haisten
Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Farrar is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Louise
Woodward Farrar of Jen
kinsburg; two daughters,
Mrs. Jack W. (Emily;
Mangham of McDonough,
Miss June Farrar of Clarks
ton; three sisters, Mrs. Mary
Lou Rosser and Mrs. L.
E. Young, both of Atlanta;
Mrs. R. A. Cook of
Jenkinsburg; a brother,
Bankston Farrar of Jenkins
burg; two grandchildren,
Robert Farrar Mangham
and Susan Louise Mangham,
both of McDonough; several
nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were A1 Cook,
George Barnes, George T.
Farrar, Charles Farrar,
Billy Curry Sr., Billy Gilbert.
Mr. Maddux
Dies In
Folkston
Mr. Walter Roswell Mad
dux of Folkston died Satur
day in Folkston after a
lengthy illness.
Mr. Maddux was a native
of Butts County, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Maddux.
Graveside services were
held Tuesday afternoon at
two o’clock from the Maddux
Cemetery in Butts County
with Jacksonville Funeral
Home, Jacksonville, Florida
in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Maddux is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Zella Maddux
of Stone Mountain; a
daughter, Mrs. Sandra King
of Stone Mountain; a son,
.Larry Maddux of Chicago,
111. , a brother, B. F. Maddux
of Jonesboro; a sister, Mrs.
Melvin Aycock of Clarkston;
five grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
Asbury Buried
At County Line
Graveside services for
John A. Asbury, 83, of 25
Peachtree Ave. NW were
held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at
County Line Baptist Church
cemetery near Jenkinsburg.
A retired employee of the
Larsen Cos., Mr. Asbury died
Sunday. He was a World War
I veteran of the U.S. Navy.
There were no immediate
survivors.
