In accordance with our Home
Rule Charter for above said
town, Section 10, irregulari
ties were found in our voting
procedure by the Town
Council and Mayor, for the
election of two Councilmen
and Mayor, held on Decem
ber 6, 1975. Due to these
irregularities, the election on
above date has been termed
as void. The December 6,
1975 election being termed as
void, anew election will be
held as set up by Town
Council on Saturday, Feb
ruary 7, 1976 at our City Hall
in Town of Jenkinsburg.
Polls will be open from 12
noon until 6 p.m.
Anyone, within our Town
boundaries, wishing to fill the
office of Town Council or
Mayor, may do so by filing
their name, and paying
proper fee to our Town Cleric
by midnight Wednesday,
January 28th.
To vote in said Town, you
must be a registered voter in
Butts County, and also
registered in said Town.
A copy of Section 10 of our
Home Rule Charter will be
posted at our City Hall for all
residents to know what their
qualifications must be in
order to vote at this election.
The present Town Council
and Mayor will remain in
their office until this election
is held.

It is the intent of this
article to inform Butts
County Citizens on recent
developments concerning
1975 Property Taxes. The
Butts County Superior Court
ruling of October 21, 1975
allowed members of the
Taxpayers Protective Asso
ciation to pay on 1974 values
at the 1975 millage rate,
pending settlement of the
court case. This forced the
County Commissioners to
reconsider the original mil
lage estimate. The 1975
millage rate is now set at
23.75. The digest has been
approved by the State and
tax notices should be mailed
in the near future. From the
date your tax notice is
mailed, you will have 60 days
in which to pay your taxes.

Tarkenton’s
Father Dies
As Son Plays
The Rev. Dallas M.
Tarkenton, 63, father of
Minnesota Viking quarter
back Francis Tarkenton,
died Sunday in Savannah
from a heart attack suffered
while watching his son’s
team play the Dallas,
Cowboys in a National
Football League playoff
game.
The elder Tarkenton was
described as “not particu
larly” interested in football,
except those games in which
Fran played.
Ironically, his son’s team
lost the Sunday afternoon
•contest in a bitterly-fought
game with a highly contro
versial pass play being the
margin in the last few
seconds.
Rev. Tarkenton was an
official at Oxford College of
Emory University for 18
years and had also served as
Rotary International gover
nor for the eastern half of
Georgia.
He had a host of friends in
Butts, Newton and other
middle Georgia counties who
will be grieved to learn of his
death.
Miss Southern Dies
At Westbury Home
Miss Jeanette Southern, 77,
of Westbury Medical Care
Home, Jenkinsburg, died
early Tuesday afternoon,
December 23rd, at the
Griffin-Spalding County Hos
pital shortly after arrival
there.
Graveside services were
conducted by Rev. Chuck
McCrackin Saturday after
noon, December 27th, in
Jackson City Cemetery with
Sherrell Funeral Home in
charge of arrangments.

thank Rev. Clarage Tucker
for his concern and for being
there when we needed him
and for his prayers and
thanks to the doctors, nurses
