Named Heart
District Chairman

Mrs. Lucille Shaw of
Covington is the new volun
teer chairman of the Georgia
Heart Association’s sixth
district, which includes
Butts, Newton, Rockdale,
Henry, Fayette, Jasper,
Putnam, Morgan and Walton
counties.
As chairman, she will be
responsible for enlistment,
orientation and training of
Heart volunteer leaders in
the nine counties of the
district. She will name a
district cabinet to work with
her.
The appointment was an
nounced by Myer O. Sigal of
Macon, chairman of the
board of directors of the
Georgia Heart Association.
“Mrs. Shaw’s experience
in a variety of community
activities, including a num
ber of years with the Heart
Association, gives her an
excellent background for
encouraging others to join in
the year-round fight against
heart disease,” Mr. Sigal
said.
Mrs. Shaw was county
HEART FUND chairman in
1973, receiving a Heart
Association bronze medallion
for outstanding volunteer
service. She is currently
heart memorials chairman
of Newton County. As district
chairman, she will serve on
the board of directors of the
Georgia Heart Association.
She has been president of
Porterdale Woman’s Club,
Covington Service Guild and
Newton County Cancer
Society. A worthy matron in
the Order of Eastern Star,
she is a member of the
Methodist United Women
and was a finalist for Georgia
Mother of the Year in 1973.
A native of Porterdale, she
has a degree from Georgia
State College for Women
(now Georgia College) at
Milledgeville and is owner of
Deedy’s Hut boutique in
Covington. Her husband is
Marion B. Shaw.
The Georgia Heart Asso
ciation is the only organiza
tion in the state devoted
exclusively to combatting all
types of heart and blood
vessel diseases.
Heart volunteers, working
in county Heart Units,
provide programs in high
blood pressure control, CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscita
tion) training and risk
factors and early warning
signs education. On the state
level, GHA supports heart
research and the Georgia
Heart Clinic System for
indigent heart patients.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Post
spent several days during the
holidays with Mr. and Mrs.
M. D. Post in Macon.
Mrs. Lois Byrd had as her
guests on Monday, Decem
ber 29th, Mr. and Mrs. Nevin
Whidby of Macon.
Mrs. Jerry McLaurin and
infant son, John Coleman
McLaurin, came home on
Saturday from Piedmont
Hospital. Both mother and
son are doing nicely.
Mrs. M. H. Bradshaw of
Rome was in Jackson on
Friday to visit her mother,
Mrs. Fred Caldwell, and to
attend funeral services for
Mrs. Ethel Carter Burford,
sister of Mrs. Caldwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Naamon
York had as Sunday after
noon guests Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest York of Locust Grove
and Mr. and Mrs. R. L.
Merritt and son, Robert, of
Jackson.
