THOUGHTS
A FOR
\j SHARING
! ■ BY EILENE MILAM
V Butts County Extension
; Home Economist
When stitching summer
knits, use anew needle for
each garment. Synthetics
dull the needle faster than
natural fibers. Fine, sheer
fabrics should be stitched
with fine needles; heavier
fabrics take larger needles.
For skipped stitches, try
replacing the needle with a
new one. A ballpoint needle
should also be used for knits.
To avoid snags, make sure
your shears and pins are
sharp.
Single knits are great for
summer’s fluid lines. Avoid
sectional seams and tailored
lines. Swimwear fabric is
great for making your own
swimsuit. Select your pattern
according to the weight and
type of knit.
WHAT’S THE FASHION
Two Resign
From Flovilla
City Council
Two members of the
Flovilla City Counil have
resigned, effective April Ist.
Mrs. Emily Burns cited
personal reasons for her
resignation and Malcolm
Smith, recently named to the
Butts County Tax Assessor
Board, said his duties there
would preclude service on
the council.
The city charter prohibits
these vacancies being filled
until the regular election of
October 20th. At that time,
the posts of mayor, one
councilman and the unex
pired terms of the Mrs.
Burns and Mr. Smith will be
filled.
Mayor Huggins announced
that the Reynolds Aluminum
Recycling Company will set
up a mobile recycling unit in
Flovilla, beginning in May.
The unit will be located
across from the Flovilla City
Hall every other, Wednesday
afternoon for purchase of
aluminum cans, plates and
scrap. The company will
provide bags for the alumi
num collection.
Ira C. Brown has been
appointed to replace David
Floyd on the Flovilla
Planning Commission. The
Commission, now consisting
of Messrs. Raymond Smith,
Jack Heil, Wayne King,
Brown and Mrs. Margaret
Dukes, has been working on a
Flovilla zoning resolution.
Meetings are held Monday
nights at 6:30 p.m. at City
Hall and interested citizens
are invited to attend.
The Jackson High School
landscaping class, under the
tutelage of Richard Ledford,
has been working on the
Bicentennial park site, cut
ting down trees and clearing
brush. Playground equip
ment and barbecue grills
have been ordered for the
park.

FORECAST FOR SUM
MER? Newer fashion em
phasis is below the waist.
Wide sashes, belts, and
twisted lengths of fabric are
wrapped around the hips.
Cotton is a big fabric for
summer. The muslin and
Indian cottons are sheer and
very attractive. Lightweight
piques, linen and poplin are
also good. The newest
looking knits have a crochet
ed-string feeling. T-shirts
continue to be popular.
Evening wear is soft and
feminine.
