If you could do one thing to improve Butts County, what would you do?

Indian Springs Academy
Has Young Baseball Team
The ISA baseball team has
come a long way since their
first game back in ‘74 and
now, comipg off a 5-8 season,
they are one of the better
teams in their sub-region.
Though still not of champion
ship caliber, as their record
suggests, they seem to be
better than their 2-4 record
indicates.
The Warriors got off to a
bad start when the team was
defeated by Barnesville
Academy. Four days later,
the Warriors handled Beech
wood and later, topped
Westwood as the Warriors
made up a one run deficit in
the final inning. ISA suffer
ed a three game losing
streak, losing first to Gate
wood Academy by 25-6. April
9, they were downed by a
good Fullington team 12-2 in
their first away game played
at Pinehurst, Georgia. ISA

In the final half of the
season, the players are
expecting better perform

they hit the road to their
games out of town. But, with
the season halfway gone,
some players are already
participating next year when
with only three players
graduating, things look
bright.
Terry Smith, assisted by
Dickie Moore, has coached
the baseball team this
season.
Umpires for home games
this year were Buster Duke,

people for enabling the
games to be played.

Timber Owners Be Paid For
Improving Quality of Stands
The Butts County ASCS
office has an allocation of
SI,OOO for approving cost
share requests for forestry
improvement practices.
Signups for the 1976
forestry incentive program
will begin April 15 and end on
May 15. Requests filed after
this period will be accepted;
however, funds may not be
available at such later date.
Eligibility is limited to
owners with 500 acres or
less; to lands from which
trees have not been harvest
ed the past five years, and to
“non-industrial” private
lands.
In approving requests,
high priority will be given to
practices that result in 40
acres being reserved for new
tree plantings or improve
ment practices.
High priority will also
apply to practices of less
than 40 acres when the entire

farm is less than 40 acres and
all land on the farm is
included in either-or a
combination of the two
practices.
Practices must meet the
specifications provided by
the Georgia Forestry Com
mission and include:
FP-1 Planting Trees. The
purpose is to establish a
stand of forest trees for
timber production purposes
and to preserve and improve
the environment. The land
selected must be suitable for
the establishment of a stand
of trees for forestry pur
poses. The cost-share ratio
will be approximately 75 per
cent of cost.
FP-2 Improving a Stand of
Forest Trees. The purpose is
to increase growth and
quality on sites suitable for
the production of saw timber
and veneer logs. The stands
selected must need im
Gingrich Calls
For Simplified
Taxing System
Sixth District Congres
sional candidate Newt Gin
grich has issued a call for a
simplified tax system that
would ease the burden on the
middle class.
Among the proposals made
by the Carrollton Repulican
was one to increase the
exemptions for dependents
and the elimination of all
other exemptions, which
mainly benefit the rich and
large corporations, he said.
“The most outrageous
loophole is a $2 billion tax
credit the oil companies can
take for paying overseas
taxes,” said the West
Georgia College history
professor.
“That is more than the
entire country took in
deductions for medical
reasons. For industry as a
whole, this tax credit was
worth over $6 billion.”
proving for the primary
purpose of producing saw
timber and veneer logs
where the potential producti
vity of the stand on site meets
or exceeds minimum fores
try standards. The cost-share
ratio will again be approxi
mately 75 per cent of cost.
Interested applicants are
advised to contact the local
ASCS office.

THE BICENTENNIAL
BLAHS
Folks, don’t get me wrong;
I am just as patriotic as the
next fellow. I have been
known to get a little misty at
the sound of the Star Spang
led Banner playing and I
always place my hand over
my heart in salute to our flag.
However, I am tired of all the
commercialization stem
ming from the 200th birthday
of our nation.
Why, if everyone started
painting the sidewalks red,
white and blue, it wouldn’t
surprise me. My eight-year
old wants to paint the bathtub
striped with stars on the
bottom and my seven-year
old is conducting his own
Bicentennial minutes: “Two
hours ago today, I brought
my Mother her first live
frog.” Ugh!
I mean, how much can a
person stand - my dog’s even
been renamed - he is now
known as Paul Revere. His
only problem is he can’t
count lanterns, much less
ride a horse.
And when I get mad
nowadays, I don’t see red.
Oh, no, I see red, white, blue,
stars, stripes, flagpoles.
The next thing you know,
there won’t be “The White
House.” The current presi
dent will reside in “The Red,
White and Blue House.”
Maybe song titles will even
change - like “I want some
red roses for a Blue Lady”
will become “I want some
REPORT FROM
GRIFFIN STATE
PATROL POST
Sgt. Hugh Taylor of the
Griffin State Patrol Post
announced today that his
post has investigated four
traffic accidents, made 272
arrests and issued warnings
in Butts County during
White Roses and Some Blue
Roses for a Red Lady.” Just
how much are we dedicated
patriots supposed to take?
I guess there is only one
consolation: the Bicentennial
won’t happen for another two
hundred years, when it’ll be
the Quad-Centennial or what
ever. By then maybe folks
won’t be so eager to make a
dime.
THE BABY
You know, it’s kind of funny
how a baby is so smart.
He gets the best of everyone
and touches the hardest
heart.
Why, even baby’s grandpa,
who’s way past thirty
years
Can absolutely fall apart at
the sight of little tears.
And grandma with all that
‘sperience can fumble in
dismay
At all the damage baby does
to things that block his
way.
Yet, mostly the hardest thing
to figger is how someone so
small
Can make his way so easily
in a world to him so tall.
CONGRATULATIONS
My congratulations this
week go out to Jim Trimble,
who recently nursed his
family through the flu.
Maybe he’s been taking
lessons from Carole!
March 1976.
Commenting further Sgt.
Taylor said one person was
injured in four accidents.
Estimated property dam
age amounted to $3,850.00.
