YOUR COMMISSIONER - POST NO. 2
Most property owners in Butts County
received notice from the County Tax Asses
sors during the last few days of the 1976
assessed value of their LAND, REAL
ESTATE and PERSONAL PROPERTY for
the purpose of determining your 1976 Coun
ty Tax.
In some cases these notices show reduc
tion in the the assessed value. Some show
a reduction of little or none, such as farm
land, which nearly everyone agrees has
been too high and some of this was raised
even more by the Butts County Tax Asses
sors.
The assessed values for 1976 have been
given to us, but there is ONE IMPORTANT
FACT NOT GIVEN by the Butts County
Assessors or by the County Commissioners
WHICH FACT IS THIS - THE 1976 MILL-

THE JACKSON PROGRESS-ARGUS, JACKSON, GEORGIA
THURSDAY, AUGUST S, 1976
AGE RATE HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN THE
BUTTS COUNTY TAX PAYERS who must
carry this heavy financial burden.
Let no one tell you differently —with
proper management, proper planning and
with about two hours work with an adding
machine, a pencil and paper, any high school
student would be able to calculate the 1976
County taxes within one-half to three-fourths
of a mill.
Why didn’t the Butts County Tax Asses
sors or the Butts County Commissioners
publish the projected 1976 millage rate along
with the assessed value notices, and certain
ly before August 10, 1976, primary?
We project the millage rate to be 32 to
35 mills so multiply 35 mills times your
assessed value you probably will be
shocked at the results.
