Nudists improve property; plan club in Henry County
A spokesman for the Nudist Corporation of
America says plans are in full swing to complete a
fl million Nudist Gun and Recreation Club on
Hampton-Locust Grove Road, but county officials
disagree that it will ever be completed.
Bob Smith, who was at work on property formerly
Occupied by Triple A Gun Club, told The Weekly -
Advertiser Friday that he is a member of the nudist
club. Smith showed the newspaper reporter through
A four bedroom home, currently being remodeled on
the premises. Workmen were painting rooms at the
jttme of the tour. The house, which includes a
spacious den, living room, dining room, and an
enclosed 28’ X 38’ swimming pool, will be occupied
by the club’s president and manager, Francis A.
G lime re, Smith said.
Smith, who was apparently overseeing work that
includes grading and adding several thousand feet of
Chain link fence, pointed out the site of a clubhouse
he said would soon be built. An old clubhouse on the
property burned earlier this year under what
Bremen called suspicious conditions.
Henry County Zoning Administrator Walker
McGarlty said he received plans in the mall
Thursday for the proposed clubhouse along with a
brochure describing club activities. McGarlty told
The Weekly - Advertiser, “I want it to be known I’m
against it. They have not been issued a permit for a
building or a nudist colony. Nothing but the gun club

THANKS
TO ALL OF YOU
I am deeply grateful for the support you gave my
candidacy in last Tuesday’s primary. This kind recep
tion each of you gave me when I contacted you has made
me even more proud to be a Butts Countian, and to
number you among my friends.
With the race only half-run, I am going to make
an honest effort to see as many of you personally be
tween now and August 31st but, should time not permit
me this privilege, please contact me if you have any
questions about the Probate Judge’s office and how
you would like to see it operated.
Thanks again for your vote and support on Tues
day. And, remember, I will need your help again even
more in the
August 31st Primary Run-Off.

McGarlty reiterated.
Smith told The Weekly - Advertiser the club now
owns 190 acres, but is interested in obtaining 200
more acres. Their master plan includes building a
shopping development, patio homes, and residences
valued to $36,000 to $60,000 on the property, he said.
Smith said the club is for families only. “It will be
on private property, not on the street, and the
members will be nude if they wish -- probably 90 per
cent of the time,” he added. He said a bam that sits
directly behind the main house will be converted to
a winter recreation building. However, a brochure
Smith gave the reporter lists under Club Rules, “All
clothing removed upon entering (except to keep
warm)."
Other rules listed in the brochure sire: no conduct
unbecoming to a lady or gentleman; no alcohol
beverages or drugs; no photos of others without
their consent; no pets allowed to run loose; no
molesting of others; clean bodies and clean minds at
all times.”

bother you: don’t you bother us,” Smith said.
Nudist Corporations headed by Gilmere have run
Into zoning difficulties and have been denied permits
In neighboring Rockdale and Fulton Counties. When
questioned about this, Smith said, "The legality
problem has been zoning. This property was already
zoned for a private club. Nothing says you have to
shoot skeet with your clothes on.”
Smith said nudist club membership Includes
doctors, attorneys, policemen, airline stewardesses,
and “believe it or not. some Catholic priests and
nuns.”
When asked If he Is a member of the club, Smith
said, “Yes, I have been a nudist for a long time. It Is
a good clean life. Members must believe In the way
of life. No drug users, homosexuals, or other
deviates are accepted. Husbands and wives must
join together.” Smith says the club Is "not like an
adult book store. We sunbathe; practice sports In the
nude.”
The brochure lists fishing, volley ball, horse shoe,
