returned home after spend
ing several weeks with Mr.
and Mrs. Otis Mangham. Mr.
Lyle was in Philadelphia on a
business assignment and
included vacation before
returning home.

Sunday due to the illness of
Mrs. Nancy Taylor. Best

early recovery, Nancy.

Whitaker returned Sunday
after spending a delightful
week at Myrtle Beach, S. C.

I would like to thank each one who voted for me in the
August 10th Primary and urge everyone to go back to the polls and
vote for me again on August 31st. To Mr. Polk's supporters, I
respectfully ask for your votes and support; it will be deeply
appreciated.
I realize that time does not permit me to contact each voter
because I cannot neglect my duty and obligation to you as your
Sheriff. If I should miss seeing you, please accept this as my
personal request for your vote. If you honor me with re-election I
will continue to work tirelessly for your protection.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Moore
were hosts for the Jenkins
burg Garden Club family
picnic at their Jackson lake
home Tuesday night. The
hosts cooked an abundance of
fresh fish and hush puppies
from the outdoor pit. Delici
our slaw, salads and dessert
were brought by the guests
making a sumptuous feast
and enjoyed alongside the
lake water by the following:

Tommy left Sunday to visit
his mother, Mrs. Celia
Lackey, in ElDorado, 111.,
who has suffered a heart
attack. We wish her a speedy
recovery.

Face Run-Off
Ray Tucker, veteran legi
slator from Georgia’s 73rd
District, will face John
McGarity, of McDonough, m
the run-off primary of
Tuesday, August 31st.
Tucker represents voters
in portions of Butts County,
including parts of Worhtville
and Jackson Districts, as
well as Henry County.
In the August 10th pri
mary, Tucker polled 146
votes in Butts-County. while
McGarity had 156 and Lewis

Festival Set Mrs. L. D. Gray
For Sept. 10-12 Dies in Tenn.
Georgia’s Stone Mountain
Park will hold its Bth annual
Yellow Daisy Festival on
September 10-12.
The three-day festival will
feature a crafts show, art
show, clogging convention, a
bluegrass music contest,
field events, a children’s
carnival and flower show.
The arts and craft show
will open from noon to 9 p.m.
on Sept. 10; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
on Sept. 11. and noon to 7p.m.
on September 12th. They will
be held in and near the
coliseum.
Other popular events
scheduled include: Blue
grass Music Contest on Sept.
11th from 11 a.m.; Clogging
convention Sunday, Sept. 12,
from 1 to 7 p.m. in the
Coliseum and the Yellow
Daisy Festival Flower show
open in Confederate Hall on
Friday. Sept. 10 from 3-5:30
p.m.; Saturday, from 9:30
a.m. to 5:30p.m. and Sunday,
Sept. 12, at the same hours.
All Yellow Daisy Festival
entertainment and exhibits
are open to the public free of
charge.
Hurd, a former Henry
County Commissioner, had
46.
Tucker led the three-man
field in the two-county race
with 3,285 votes, followed
closely by John McGarity
with 2,905 votes and Lewis
Hurd with 1.292 votes.
The winner of the run-off
will face Republican. Ed
Wallace in the November
general election.

Mrs. Ina Hodges Briscoe of
Knoxville, Tenn., widow of
Mr. W. N. Briscoe, died
August 7th in Knoxville,
Tenn. She was a native of
Birmingham, Ala, and had
spent most of her life in
Knoxville where she was a
member of the Second
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three
daughters, Mrs. L. Max
Haisten of Griffin, Mrs. F. B.
Kuhlman of Knoxville and
Mrs. L. D. Gray of Jackson;
two sons, Maj. Gen. E. H.
Briscoe of Columbus, Ohio
and William Russell Briscoe
of Knoxville;
A brother, Charles O.
Hodges of Birmingham; two
sisters. Mrs. George Johnson
of Akron, Ohio and Mrs.
Edward Vogel of Gordon
Grove. Calif.; nine grand
children. 20 great grand
children and two great, great
granchildren.
The funeral was held
Monday afternoon, August
9th. in Highland Memorial
cemetery in Knoxville.
