As I began to think about
the article for the paper, my
mind began to wonder about
those people that you meet
every day that are very
“grouchy”: those that you
meet where you work, those
that you meet on the street,
those that you meet even in
your home.
A thought occurs to me, I
had wondered why people
were that way. Could it have
been that they had some
terrible calamity in their
family, or could it have been
that they got up on the wrong
side of the bed this morning?
Or maybe they do not feel
good physically. I do not
know.
The grouchy people afford
those whq love them much
pain and sorrow. Those that
would live a Christian life
find it very hard every day to
walk and to live among
people who seemingly do not
care about anybody but
themselves. They make you
uncomfortable, no joy to
really be with. When many
times you meet them you go
away with a bitterness of
your own soul. You think,
“Well, I’ll not speak to them,
I’ll not have anything else to
do with these people”, and
you begin to form your
opinion. I wondered if this
was the right attitude for a
Christian, God-fearing man
to have.
My mind went back to a
long time ago that I became
hurt with someone that was
very close to my heart and
mindful of that hour when I
wanted to pay them back for
their treatment towards me.
Their grouchiness and ill will
toward me I wanted to pay
them back in kind. But God in
that hour showed me a
wonderful scripture found in
Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer
turneth away wrath; but
grievous words stir up
anger.” I wondered if Jesus
was not telling us that when
we hear words of grouchiness
and bitterness of soul coming
from a person, that we should
speak kindly and softly back
to them. When He said,
“Love thy neighbor as
thyself” in this instance I
believe it should be every
Christian’s desire that truly
he might speak soft words to
the grouches of the world,
words such as “Jesus loves
you”. “Love thy neighbor as
thyself” is a good motto that
might bring this about in our
lives.
I wonder as I see so many
that are grouches today,
could it be because of sin or
could it be because of their
great need of wanting to be
loved. Life affords us many
problems, heartaches, and
burdens. One is confronted
with many things. We find
that those that love God and
would bring joy and cheer
must also confront the
grouches of the world. But I
think this is the greatest time
and opportunity to show that
Christ really has put joy in
our hearts (when He brought
salvation to our soul) that we
can rejoice evermore in that
hour, and can bring cheer.
Through He who has lit our
path, (Jesus Christ) ought we
not make this pathway a
little more joyous and bright
for those that are not
Christians or for those who
are “grouches”. “Ye are the
light of the world.” Amen.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 1976
ELECT
ROXILU K. BOHRER
County Commissioner
Post No. One
MY DEEPEST AP
PRECIATION to each of you
who voted for me August 10 and
an EXTRA SPECIAL THANK
YOU to everyone who spoke to
friends about me. Since I can't
afford paid campaign help, this
means so much to me!
If you voted for another
candidate, please give me a
chance to win your vote. Some
of you I haven't met yet, but
I'm trying hard to meet you
before August 31.
I want to set the record straight: I'm not tied in with any
other candidate, group, or power structure. I am neither for, nor
against, any other candidate. I have not said a word against any
other candidate, only what I will do as your County Commissioner.
That way, I can work effectively with anyone you, the voters, choose
for Posts 2 and 3, sheriff, tax commissioner, probate judge, and
school superintendent. I don't have any businesses to look after or a
9 to 5 job, so I can spend as much time as it takes to get things done
right.
I CARE, AND I'LL WORK TO GET ACTION ON THESE
THINGS:
Outrageous taxes and unnecessary spending.
Roads paved or improved, drainage problems, road signs.
Adequate fire and police protection throughout the county.
Work to change zoning requiring 10 acres for mobile homes.
Make it easier for you to take care of business in the
courthouse; offices open during noon, and at least one evening and
Saturday AM.
Give you a voice in important decisions, such as beer, wine
or liquor, by a referendum.
Open meetings, minutes published in the paper and over
WJGA.
Make it easier to register and more convenient to vote.
Get federal funds for the county and cut down
unemployment.
Give everyone - young people, black people, mature people,
older people, the average person, a real voice in what happens I'LL
BE YOUR VOICE IN THE COURTHOUSE!
Work for better cooperation between county and city
governments.
Fill new county jobs on the basis of ability, not friendship or
color.
Improve health care, such as blood pressure clinics.
Better accounting; publish spending by departments so we
can see where our tax money goes.
To those who “don't believe in women running things'':
Anyone in public office is the servant, not the boss, of the people. I
ask for the opportunity to serve you.
I know that my background of working with people as a
teacher, school psychologist, and director of a federal project in the
Atlanta School System will help me to serve you better.
I'LL STAND UP FOR WHAT'S RIGHT, SPEAK UP FOR
YOU, AND NEVER LET YOU DOWN!
