Summers-Jackson Wedding
Solemnized August 7th
The marriage of Miss
Laurie Ellen Summers and
Leslie Allan Jackson was
solemnized at the First
Baptist Church of Jackson on
Saturday, August 7. The
bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Hal A. Summers of
Stevenson, Alabama, form
erly of Jackson. The groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lamar Jackson of Carroll
ton, Georgia.
The Reverend Don Folsom,
assisted by the Reverend
John Caylor, performed the
double ring ceremony at 7:30
p.m. before an altar decorat
ed with ivory candles in
brass candelabra with ar
rangements of mixed flowers
in pastel shades, background
greenery and a central
kneeling bench.
Prior to the ceremony, Mr.
Ronnie Stephens, organist,
presented a program of
wedding music. Mr. Larry
Hill of Snellville, Georgia
sang “The Wedding Prayer”.
Miss Annette Horsley of
Birmingham, Alabama sang
“Efernal Life”, “Because”
and “Through the Year.”
Mr. Lamar Jackson served
as his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Henry
Jackson, Jr. of Villa Rica,
Georgia, brother of the
groom; Darrell Summers,
brother of the bride, Buddy
Raper of Chickamauga,
Georgia, Mike Sinyard, Mike
Pollard and Phil Carnes, all
of Carrollton, Georgia.
Mrs. Dale Beason of
Birmingham, Alabama was
her cousin’s matron of honor.
The bridesmaids were Mrs.
Stanley Whittle of Birming
ham, Alabama, Mrs. Ralph
Benton of Snellville, Georgia,

Their turquoise floor length
gowns of dotted Swiss over
polyester crepe featured
empire styling with a
stand-up collar flaring into a
cape collar over short flared
sleeves. They carried colo
nial bouquets of mixed
flowers in pastel colors with
pastel ribbon streamers.
The bride, given in
marriage by her father, wore
a gown of white organza and
Alencon lace fashioned with
high-rise waistline, A-line
skirt and attached chapel
train. The Victorian neckline
and fitted sleeves were
enhanced with Alencon lace
and seed pearls, as were the
hemline and train. Her
chapel-length veil, attached
to a Juliet cap, was edged in
lace and she carried a classic
cascade bouquet of white
roses, daisies, stephanotis
and baby’s breath.
Mrs. Summers chose for
her daughter’s wedding a
floor-length gown of Tur
quoise chiffon with matching
accessories, complemented
with a corsage of pink roses.
Mrs. Jackson, mother of the
groom, selected a formal
gown of peach crepe and
chiffon, also with matching
accessories. Her corsage was
of Talisman roses.
The reception following the
ceremony was in the fellow
ship hall of the church. The
bride’s table, covered with a
blue cloth and lace overskirt,
featured silver candelabra
centered with arrangements
of mixed pastel flowers. The
three-tier wedding cake was
surrounded with live flowers
and decorated with arrange
ments of flowers on the top

and between the tiers. The
groom’s table was centered
with a chocolate groom’s
cake accented with frosted
green grapes. Punch in a
silver bowl and cheese
straws, wedding cookies,
nuts and mints completed the
arrangements on the bride's
table. Guests were given
pastel rice roses from
baskets on the serving tables.
Mrs. Bill Nelson, Jr. of
Jackson kept the bride’s book
and presented remembrance
scrolls to the guests. Assist
ing in serving were Miss
Marcia Yawn of Griffin,
Georgia, Miss Sharon Mur
dock and Miss Dawn Stinson
of Atlanta, Georgia, Miss
Susan Fields of Smyrna,

On the evening prior to the
wedding, Mr. and Mrs.
Lamar Jackson, parents of
the groom, hosted a buffet
rehearsal dinner at the
Holiday Inn at Locust Grove,
Georgia for the wedding
party and their families. The
tables were centered with an
arrangement of tiny mums
and white tapers in silver
candelabra.
Miss Laurie Summers
honored her attendants at a
bridesmaids’ luncheon on
August 7 at the Holiday Inn at
Locust Grove. The center
piece was an arrangement of
tiny baskets surrounding a
large basket filled with fruit.
The small baskets were lined
with orange patchwork fa
bric and each contained a gift
wrapped in white and tied
with the patchwork fabric
and were later presented to
the wedding attendants.

ENJOYS PROGRAM
ON BICENTENNIAL
The Iron Springs Sunshine
Club met recently at the
Community House with Mrs.
Evelyn Cook, Mrs. Mervin
Bryan and Mrs. Dolly Ann
Marehman as hostesses. The
club house was beautiful with
bicentennial colors.
The meeting was called to
order by Mrs. Ruth Greer,
president, who welcomed the
15 members present.
Following the singing of
America, the devotional and
prayer was given by Mrs.
Bryan. Reports were given
and the program was
presented by Mrs. Bryan and
Mrs. Evelyn Cook on the
Bicentennial Displays of
beautiful plates from each
state, old containers of glass,
books and varirfus old things
of interest to members.

sustained a broken hip

Hospital, her many friends
regret to learn. She was
admitted to the hospital on
August 19 th.
