systems at the Yellow Water
Creek wastewater treatment
plant will be received by the
City of Jackson, Georgia at
the office of the City Clerk
located at the City Hall,
Jackson, Georgia until 3:00
PM local time, March 22,
1977, and then at said office
publicly opened and read
aloud.
Any contract (s) awarded
under this Advertisement for
Bids are expected to be
funded by a grant from the
Economic Development
Administration of the U. S.
Department of Commerce
and is identified as EDA
Project No. 04-51-01557.
Bidders must comply with

Order No. 11,246, as amend

HEARING
PROJECT: F-022-1 (4)
SPALDING - Butts
Notice is hereby given that
a design public hearing will
be held by the Georgia
Department of Transporta
tion on its project number
F-022-1 (4) Spalding - Butts
County, if a written request is
made for such a hearing.
Georgia Project F-022-1 (4)
Spalding - Butts is the
relocation of State Route 16
from Griffin to Interstate
Route 75. This opportunity
for a hearing is for the
portion of the project which
begins at High Falls Road, at
a point five miles east of
Griffin, and extends 4.4 miles
easterly on new location to
the existing interchange of
S.R. 16 and 1-75. The project
is to be the initial two lane
construction of a four lane
rural highway with free
access rights. Right-of-way
will be purchased for the
complete four travel lanes.
There will be at-grade
intersections at High Falls
Road, Wani Road, Bailey
Jester Road, Wallace Road,
Kermit Williams Road, and
existing S.R. 16 at 1-75.
The purpose of this project
is to decrease travel dis
tance, accidents, and fatal
ities. by offering an alternate
to the present substandard
S.R. 16.
Maps, preliminary plans,
right-of-way requirements
and the final environmental
impact statement for the
proposed project are on file
and are available for public
inspection at the Department
of Transportation Resident
Engineer's Office, on U.S. 19
in Griffin. Georgia.
Any interested and affect
ed person who, after review
ing the information at the
location stated above, re
quests that a public hearing
he held on the project must
make such a request in

had lunch at Morrison’s.
Later in the day Mr. and Mrs.
Nash were supper guests of
Mrs. Bernice Greene in
Lithonia.
Guest of Mr. and Mrs. Max
Redman for the past two
weeks was Mrs. Redman’s
sister, Mrs. Lois Purcell of
Miami, Fla. Mrs. Purcell had
been a patient in an Atlanta
hopital for several weeks
prior to her visit here. She
left during the weekend for a
visit with her daughter at
Stone Mountain before re
turning to her home in
Miami.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Banks
of Barnesville, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Collins, Suzy and Dodie
of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs.
Jimmie White and Bart were
dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd White on Sunday. The

not present was Kelley,

Jimmie White. Kelley was
skating in the skate-a-thon at

A number of boys and girls
in the community partici

Saturday night and Sunday.
These young people are to be
commended for their part in
the money raising fund for
the Heart Drive. The amount
of money realized from the
roll-a-thon exceeded all ex
pectations.

March Ist after 27 years of
service as a rural mail
carrier.
Counting his military ser
vice, Buddy has over 30 years

of friends made during his
service as a rural letter
carrier.

Team Wins
Area Honors
The Jackson Chapter.of the
Future Farmers of America,
who annually rank among
the top chapters in the State
in parliamentary procedure,
has won the area contest in
that field for the past four
years.
At the recent contest held
at Mary Persons High School
in Forsyth, the Jackson
F.F.A. team was declared
winner in' the 1977 area
competition in the Parlia
mentary Procedure contest.
Heading the Jackson
F.F.A. team was William
Yancy, president of the
Jackson F.F.A. chapter and
State vice-president. Other
team members include Wes
ley Baker, Mack Browning,
Glen Williams, Keith Wil
liams and Roger McDaniel.
Other teams competing in
the Forsyth event were
Fayette County, Newton
County, R. L. Cousins Junior
High School and Henderson
Junior High, of Jackson.
The next competition for
the local Parliamentary
Procedure team will be the
district contest to be held in
May at the State F.F.A. -
F.H.A. camp near Covington.

in the March issue of
Reader’s Digest. According
to author Ronald Schiller,
“Georgia is rich in agricul
ture, a leading producer of
textiles, aircraft, automo
biles, marble and ceramic
clay, and-with two thirds of
its territory still covered by
forests-accounts for more
pulp and paper products than
any other state in the union.”
Roving Editor Schiller
starts the reader on a tour of
the state, beginning in the
northern portion at the falls
of Toccoa and Amicalola,
Tallulah Gorge and the
Chattooga River. Schiller
notes that native handicrafts
are plentiful in the area and

amples of 18th -and 19th -
century architecture, rang
ing from warm grayish-red
brick Georgian and Federal
structures with lacy iron
balconies, to neo-classic
temples of white stone and
Victorian Gothic mansions
built of wood.” Other stops in
Schiller’s itinerary are the
Okefenokee Swamp and the
fabled Golden Isles.
