gtfliff BLAKE REEVES CELEBRATES IST BIRTHDAY Blake Reeves was honored with a party on his first birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Reeves. The party was given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reeves, on September 10. A cookout, with ice cream and cake was enjoyed by everyone. Blake received many nice gifts and favors were given to all the young guests. J.R. CARMICHAEL GETS 55-YEAR SERVICE PIN J. R. Carmichael, who began his service to Georgia Power Company in 1922, was awarded a 55-year pin at a Company barbecue Thurs day in Forest Park honoring retirees. He retired in 1966 as manager of purchases and supplies for the Georgia Power Company. Attending the festivities Thursday in addition to Mr. Carmichael were B.Y. Lunceford and Dick Pope, also retired from active service with the Power Company, and the wives of the three retirees. LASHAE WELLS CELEBRATES IST BIRTHDAY LaShae Wells celebrated her first birthday at the home of her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Thaxton of Jackson, Tuesday evening, September 20. Those present include Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Wells, Penny and Dondi Wells of Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Thaxton of Conyers, and Mr. and Mrs. Audie Well§. Everyone enjoyed cake and ice cream. Her cake was decorated like a circus. PERSONAL At the meeting Tuesday, September 20th, of the Atlanta Downtown Kiwanis Club, J. R. Carmichael was presented a Legion of Honor award for his 30 years of membership in, and service to, the Club. Going to Columbia, S. C. for the Georgia-South Caro lina game on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Briscoe, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Moelchert, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Carr, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Collins and children were among those from Jackson in attendance at the Georgia- South Carolina game in Columbia, S. C., Saturday evening. MATRON CIRCLE ANNIVERSARY WAS SUCCESS The Zion Baptist Church Matron Circle celebrated their first anniversary on Sunday, September 25th, at three o’clock at the church where the Rev. W. C. James is pastor. The Matron Circle is composed of 13 young ladies, Emma Head, president; Mamie R. Crawford, vice president; Mary Cleveland, secretary; Ozinnia Outland, treasurer; Nellie Hunter, assistant treasurer; Lela R. Taylor, chaplain. Other members are Elzumma Allen, Mary Ruth Robert, Minnie F. Crawford, Naomi Duffie, Gwendolyn B. West, Arvis McCormick, and Mar garet McCormick, Deacon advisor. a jr The speaker for the occasion was Mrs. C. B. Singleton of Americus, She is the only woman certified Dean of Christian Education in the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Geor gia, where she serves as Assistant Dean of Christian Education for the Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union of Georgia. Mrs. Singleton spoke on “Lights Along the Shore,” which emphasized the point that Jesus is the light and we are reflectors of that light through out service to humanity. The Circle would like to thank all of the church auxiliaries for their partici pation, the visitor, members and friends who helped to make this program a success, both spiritually and financially. Special thanks to the pastor, Rev. James, who has been a strong supporter of all the and endeavors of the Matron Circle. AVONDALE PARK GETS NEW PICNIC BENCHES Avondale Park is sporting some new concrete picnic tables furnished by the Georgia Department of Transportation. County Commission Chair man Mac Collins says much of the thanks for these much-needed improvements should go to Senator Peter Banks, of Barnesville, who assisted in obtaining them for the Park. PERSONAL Mrs. J. W. Carter was released Tuesday from Emory University Hospital where she recently under went surgery. She is expect ed to return home later this week from Conyers where she has been since Tuesday with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Williams, Mr. Williams and family. Mrs. Rita Mangham and Mrs. Frances James repre sented Rita’s Beaute Rama and attended the Felton-Fred Beauty forum September 18th and 19th at Ramada Inn in Atlanta. They learned the latest in styles and colors. Mrs. Girden Cook entered St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta, on Monday, September 19th, and was scheduled for surgery the first of this week, her many friends will be interested to know. Miss Sue Lockhart spent a week in Atlanta with her brother. Mr. Bill Lockhart, who had ta undergo an emergency appendectomy at Georgia Baptist Hospital on Wednesday, September 14th. He is doing nicely now. Lt. Col. (Ret.) W. A. Patterson and Mrs. Patter son, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fountain attended the work shop and fall conference of The American Legion and Auxiliary in Augusta on September 24-25. Miss Gegie Leverette en tered Georgia Baptist Hos pital late Sunday for eye surgery. She returned home Tuesday. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Duvall Patrick were Dr. and Mrs. Charles McGahee of Aiken, S. C., and Mrs. Nancy Rogers of Augusta. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Carmichael attended ser vices Sunday at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, and after wards were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Theron Wilson at their home on Clairmont Road. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Raymon Reed, Mrs. Etta Balyo, and Mr. Nathan Moore. Dr. G. N. Etheredge, Jr. of Charlotte, N. C., Misses Mandy and Jenny Etheredge of Lawrenceville, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Etheredge. Mrs. G. N. Etheredge, president of the Jackson Presbyterian Women of the Church, attended a Training Workshop ftr District VI at Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Conyers on Tuesday. Offers Chain Saw Clinic Farmers, homeowners, and pulpwooders, how val uable is your chainsaw? Does it ever give you any trouble? Would you like to know how to make it last longer through proper maintenance? If so, you may be interested in attending a two-cycle Chain Saw Clinic to be held in the Vocational Agriculture Department of the Jackson High School. The clinic begins Monday, Octo ber 3, at 7:30 P M. Classes will be held also on Tuesday, October 4, and Wednesday, October 5. The course will include the operation, care and main tenance of chain saws. Those attending will be requested to bring one of the more common makes of chain saws in running condition. The saw must be brought to the first class complete with bar and chain. Willie Colvin and George Weldon, Vocational Agricul ture Teachers, will be assisted by Dewey H. Turner, Jr., Area Teacher, in conducting the course. Since the number of class mem bers will be limited, please contact the Agriculture De partment at 775-2383 during school hours.
