ABOUT THE FARM* All the legislatures in the wes tern states are hard at work con sidering the bills demanded to be enacted by the farmers, and, what is more, when the bills are enacted they will all be good laws, good for all the people. Verily, this is a farmer’s year.—Journal of Agri culture'. Boston bankers are reported as inserting a clause in mortgagesand notes that payment shall be in gold or its equivalent- This is prepare ing for and discounting tho possi bility of free silver coinage. The eastern financiers want it known that they propose to deal in gold, and on gold basis, whether the government does or not. —Denver Field and Farm. Several years since a gardener discovered that by planting his squash seed in earth that had a layer of coal ashes above and be low it the vines were not molested by cut worms. The alliance has now reached tho danger line of its existence. It is too strong to be injured, and its principles are too just to be fairly and openly contested. Trickery and special pleadings on the par of its enemies are the only effective weapons that can now be used. Tho order should bo prepared for this, and remember that unity of action and faith in each other is the only defense against such attacks. Lot ' the membership stand together as one man, and make the fight for home and family.—National Econ omist. For the information of our read ers we give tho following brief res vie^v concerning the National Farmers’ Alliance that has recently been in session at Omaha. This organization was started in Chica go abotfUihe same time the alliance was started in Texas. It is an agri cultural organization, but it has no secret work. It is confined to the western states, with its principal membership in Nebraska, lowa, Minnesota. Its aims and purposes are about the same as tho National Farmers’ Alliance and Industrial Union, buts its methods are some what different. Alliance Eagle (Ellisville, Miss.) says: “The alliance, as an organi zation, is either for nor against the democratic or republican party, but are fighting for personal rights and a government of and for the peo ple. If any person or party wants to ‘fall by the wayside,’ let him step in the way of the alliance. They have started out to right some of the wrongs that have exist ed too long already.” The proclamation of President Polk, authorizing the formation of a state alliance in lowa is soon to be followed by like action in Ohio, the latter state already having membership to justify tho call. Consumption Cured. These Tight Tinies. — It was said that after the 15th ot ‘January last, times'would ease up >and money would become more; plentiful, but the pressure is still I on. Start out on a collecting tour and you will find lawyers, doctors, merchantsand all classes ot com ; mercial men who would pay if they ! had the money to pay with. Our' whole financial system is out of gear. Men of money have dictated and controlled the money’ policy 7 so long that the people are at the mercy of squeezers. Nobody 7 wants an inflated currency; no sensible business man wants money 7 that is so flexible that it looks to him like something that is semi-worthless, but a good currency, in sufficient quantity to meet the demands of a great and growing country. Con tractions Keeps wages down, makes land low in price and worse, no de mand for them; it clogs new enter prises and industries; it makes in terest high add thus works a hard ship on the poor man. It is wrong in principle and will not be tolera ted by 7 the people after the next national election. Tho working people of the country are going to have more money 7 in the country or a row. B. IL King, Adrian, S. C., says: “John son’s Tonic beats the world for La Grippe.” Sold under a guarantee to cure for 50 cents. How to Wear Shoes. “Do you know there isn’t one roan in 500 who knows how to wear shoos?” remarked a Clark street shoe dealer tho other day. “The average man buys a pair of shoes, weais them until they are no long er presentable, and then throws them away and buys another pair. A man ought to have at least two pairs of shoes for every day wear, and no pair should bo worn two days in succession. At first thought, this may 7 strike you as a scheme to benefit the shoo dealer, but it is nothing of the kind. In fact, such a plan would injure tl e shoe busi ness. Two pairs of shoes worn al ternately will last three times as long as a single pair. Tho saving, of course, is made in the wearing of the leather. A pair of shoes worn every day goes to pieces than twice as fast as a pair worn every second day. I know that proposition is a staggerer, but it is true, nevertheless. A man does not wear out two pairs of shoes in exactly tho same manner. Do you remember how an old pair feel when you first put them on again after they have been discarded for awhile? They didn't fit you like your new ones, and the contrast is very marked. But tho same thing holds true in the case of new shoes. No two pair fit your feet in exact ly the same way 7 . In one pair tho strain and wear of + he leather fall heaviest upon one particular part of the shoe, and in another the greatest, wear and tear fall upon another part altogether.” $ 3 O. A robin killed at Columbus Sat urday had a four-inch snake in his stomach. Special Notice. Office of Caldwell Commission Co., Chicago, 111., Jan. 21, 1890. A. B. Girardeau, Savannah, Ga.: Dear Sir: My son, a man of 30 years, was attacked with La Grippe and, believing it be of malarial or igin, took your Johnson’s Tonic as directed for chills and fever. The result was he escaped the fever which follows the severe aching, and was able to be at work the second day. I was taken with the disease. Every bone in me began to ache, and my suffering was great. I was compelled to go home and to bed. I fully expect ed to be there a week. My son told me of his experience, and urged me to take Johnson’s Chill and Fever Tonic. I did so, took it with regularity and through the night, and was agreeably surprised to see that no fever came. 1 con tinued until 1 had eight doses — felt weak and exhausted, but no fever, and aching disappeared. Next morning 1 had a good appe tite for my breakfast, felt quite well, and went to my 7 business as well as I ever was. Since then I have tried it with like results on two other cases. Yours truly, W, W. Caldwell, President and Manager. La Grippe corresponds very nearly with“our Broken Bone Fe ver or Dengue Fever. Johnson’s Chill and Fever Tonic is a specific lor any malaiial trouble, hence it cures La Grippe. Gentlemen: In the spring of 1838 I contracted a severe case of Blood Poison, and for more than a year it stuck to me closer than a brother. I had taken quantities of all the biood purifiers on the market, but none seemed to do me any good until I struck W. W. C. (Wooldridge’s Wonderful Cure). It is Safe and Harmless as the Purest Milk. This wonderful Nervine Tonic has only recently been introduced into this country by the Great South American Aledicinc Company, and yet its great value as a curative agent has long been known by the native inbaln itants of South America, who rely almost wholly upon its great medicinal powers to cure every form of disease by which they are overtaken. It also cures all forms of failing health from whatever cause. It performs this by the Great Nervine Tonic qualities which it possesses and by its great curative powers upon the digestive organs, the stomach, the liver and the bowels. No remedy compares with this wonderfully valuable Nervine Tonic as a builder and strengthener of the life forces of the human body and as a great renewer of a broken down constitution. It is also of more real permanent value in the treatment and cure of diseases of the Lungs than any ten consumption rem edies ever used on this continent. It is a marvelous cure for nervousneM of females of all ages. Ladies who are approaching the critical period known as change in life, should not fail to use this great Nervine Tonic almost constantly for the space of two or three years. It will carry them safely over the danger. This great strengthener and curative is of inestimable value to the aged and infirm, because its great energizing properties will give them a new hold on life. It will add ten or fifteen years to the lives of many of those who will use a half dozen bottles of the remedy each year A SWORN CURE FOP ST. VITUS’S DANCE OR CHOREA. Crawfordsville, Ind., Maj’ 19,1886. My daughter, twelve years old, had been af flicted for several months with Chorea or St. Vitus’s Dance. She was reduced to a skeleton, could not walk, could not talk, could not swal low anything but milk. I had to handle her like an infant. Doctor and neighbors gave her up. I commenced giving her the South Ameri can Nervine Tonic; the effects were very sur prising. In three days she was rid of the ner vousness, and rapidly improved. Four bottles cured her completely. I think the South American Nervine the grandest remedy ever discovered, and would recommend it to every one. Mrs. W. S. Ensminger. State of Indiana, ) . Montgomery County, J si> ' Subscribed and sworn to before me this May 19, 1887. Chas. M. Travis, Notary Public. INDIGESTION AND DYSPEPSIA. Tho Great South American Nervine Tonic Which we now offer you, is the ouly absolutely unfailing remedy ever discov ered for the cure of Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and the vast train of symptom* and herrors which are the result of disease and debility of the human stom ach. No person can afford to pass by this jewel of incalculable value who u affected by disease of tho Stomach, because tho experience and testimony of thousands go to prove that this is the one and only one great cure in tho world for this universal destroyer. ’ There is no case of unmalignant discoo of the stomach which can resist tho wonderful curative powers of the »South American Nervine Tonic. Harriet E. Hall, of Waynetown, Ind., says: “I owe my life to The Great South American i Nervine. I had been in bed for five months fr®m the effects of an exhausted Stomach, In- i digestion. Nervous Prostration and a general : shattered condition of my whole system. Ha l i given up all hopes of getting well. H:.J tried ' three doctors with no relief. The first otile of the Nervine Tonic improved meso much that I was able to walk about, and a few bottles cured i me entirely. I believe it the best medicine in i the world. I can not recommend it too highly.” Mrs. M. Russell, Sugar Creek Valley, Ind., writes: “I have used several bottles of The ' South American Nervine Tonic, and will say I ' consider it the best medicine in the world. I believe it saved the lives of two of my children. They were down and nothing appeared to do them any good until I procured this remedy. It was very surprising how rapidlj' they both improved on its use. I recommend the medi cine to all my neighbors. EVERY BOTTLE WARRANTED. CURES Nervousness and Nervous Prostration, Nervous Headache and Sick Headache, Female Weakness, All Diseases of Women, Nervous Chills, Paralysis, Nervous Paroxysms and Nervous Choking Hot Flashes, Palpitation of he Heart, Mental Despondency, Sleeplessness, St. Vitus’s Dance, Nervousness of Females, Nervousness of Old Ago, Neuralgia, Pains in the Heart, Pains in the Back, Failing Health. All these and many other complaints NERVOUS DISEASES. As a cure for every class of Nervous Diseases, no remedy has been able to compare with the Nervine Tonic, which is very pleasant and harmless in all its effects upon the youngest child or the oldest and most delicate individ ' ual. Nine-tenths of all the ailments to which the human family is heir, are dependent on nervous exhaustion and impaired digestion. When there is an insufficient supply of nerve food in the blood, a general state of debility of the brain, spinal marrow and nerves is the result. Starved nerves, like starved muscles, become strong when the right kind of food is supplied, and a.'thousand weaknesses and ailments disappear as the nerves recover. As the nervous system must supply all the power by which the vital force® of the body are carried on, it is the first to suffer for want of perfect nutrition. Ordinary food does not contain a sufficient quantity of the kind of nutriment necessary to repair the wear our present mode of living and labor imposes upon the nerves. For this reason it becomes necessary that a nerve food be supplied. This recent production of the South American Continent has been found, by analysis, to contain the essential elements out of which nerve tissue is formed. This accounts for its magic power to cure all forms of nervoun derangements. Crawfordsville, Ind., Aug. 20, ’B6. To the Great South American Medicine Co.: j>ear Gents :—I desire to say to you that I nave suffered for many years with a very seri ous disease of the stomach and nerves. I tried every medicine I could hear of but nothing done me any appreciable good until I was ad vised to trv vour Great South American Nervine Tonic and Stomach and Liver Cure, and since using several bottles of it I must say that 1 am surprised at its wonderful powers to cure the stomach and general nervous system.
