His name is Amos Ilusie, New York’s crack baseball pitcher. Tom Watson says he does not waul the ollice of congressman unless lie is fairly elected to it. Tliat being the ease, Tolu is (loomed to the seclusion of private life. ft is said that Spain has spent 81 lo, <100, IK HI in suppressing ill uirrectioiis in Cuba. This is within a few hun¬ dred thousand of what the island is worth without its revolutionary feat¬ ures. If the Fourth Party will only cei si in the absolute absorption of the Third Party may things will he for giveu and conceded, especially if it will leave out Colonel Mrs. Mary Lease and (icnoral Weaver. Albany Herald. Superintendent II. M. McIntosh, of the Georgia ehatnnqiin, has our thanks for a season ticket to the seventh an¬ nual session of that institution, w hich begins next Sunday. The programme for Ibis session will lie unusually en fertuinnig and profitable, and crowds of people will no doubt take advan¬ tage of the reduced railroad fare to attend. Two ignoble citizens of Alabama. M. IV. Howard and J. C. Manning, went to New York recently on a mis¬ sion that is certainly a sad commentary on their patriotism—that of defaming the good name of their state and seek¬ ing to de|Weciate the value of its se (MiVitivs, Alabama is too grand in peo¬ ple and great in resources to receive any hurt from these pygmy politicians, whose efforts have only resulted m a sillv fiasco. The Thoinasville advertiser an¬ nounces that McKinley's plan is to lay the negro on the shelf and estab¬ lish a white republican party in the South. The plan won't work, says an exchange: the negro has the repub¬ lican party by the umbilicus and he is not likely to let go. Lop off the negro from the republican party and there wouldn't be anything left but a few bof^stfs. Ware county is considerably stirred »p over the attempt of a black, burly negro man to court a white girl—the yotffig daughter of a respectable farmer living near Waycross. The negro said he had as much right to marry a white woman as did Fred Douglass, hut when . lie . appeared at the tanner . s house and made his intentions known, the forthcoming of a shotgun caused miffy tofaLe to the woods in a hurry, At last accounts a posse of white men and several negros were scouring the 1 woods for the negro and if he is caught he may be dealt with summarily. Gavernor Atkinson has decided tlmt tJiere must be a state encampment this year, notwithstanding the fact tluil the last legislature pursued such a narrow policy toward Georgia’s military. An'\l herein the governor is right again. A few days ago he asked lieutenant Sat terlee to make an estimate for him as to how the 811,000 appropriated should be used to obtain the best results, and the estimate has heentsubmitted. The gov¬ ernor is looking into it, but lias not yet decided whether or not ho will adopt or make any change in it. In this estimate the ten thousand <k*l hws is set aside for the encamp ■nient.
