Red Cross Seals .
In Cochran
Every year at Chiistmaatide the
American Red Croas Society prepares
a Christmas sea!, which is useful in
fastening the paper flaps of Christ
mas parcels and envelopes which are
sent by mail and these seals are sold
to the public at one cent each, the
money realized from the sale being
used in the light against tuberculo
sis made by the societies striving
for the prevention of tuberculosis.
There are six of these associations at
work in Georgia, and they want to
sell 2,(XX),(XX) seals ita Georgia this
year. When we consider the great
numbers suffering from this dread
disease in Georgia, we cannot think
that 820,000 expended in this cause
in using these seals is extravagant,
as the principal source of revenue
of the 500 volunteer associations at
work in the United States is the lit
the Red Cross seals.
Everyone in Cochran should fed
a sense of personal reproach when
it is known that last year less than
85.(X) worth of these seate were list'd
in this city. The expenditures rep
resented by these seals on mail mat
ter received here last year would,
no doubt, have trebled this amount.
Suiely Cochran should send away
on mail matter seals representing a
greater amount than 85.00. Paut
experience has shown that every
twenty dollars invested in t&eee
seals saves a life. When we. tihink
of the number of lives sacrificediby
this community to this “great white
plague, ’ ’ ought we not to> ieel it our
duty to save at least oae lift this
year.
In the absence ȣ an agent in
this county to sell these seali the
hanks, which are always interested
in the welfare of the community and
are ever ready to help with a cause
of this kind, have been asked by the
state agents to attempt the sale of
these seals. They can be bought at
the Cochran Banking Co. and the
First National Back,
Boys, we have that present you want for your best girl.
