Card Of Thanks
Dear Editor:
Please allow me space jrt your val
uable paper to try to express my sin
■ere and deep gratitude to the deal
friends and good people of this city
and vicinity for the many kind and
loving miniistrations bestowed on me
ad my family, both before and during
my present serious illness which has
already covered a period of more than
twelve months.
Only a few years ago I came among
these people as a stranger; but their
deeds of kindness to me have by no
means been measured by the strength
of our acquaintance, or the extent of
our association together. I
could not have expected more had I
been their near relative pr life-long
friend.
Especially does my whole heart,
mind and soul go out in gratitude to
those dear neighbor ladies who have
o often neglected the affairs of their
own homes, and have so faithfully and
freely administered, not only to. my
own needs, hut also to the needs of
my two children, thus greatly lessen
! ing the cares and burdens of my dear
husband.
Though my illness has already been
lof long duration, and still continues,
yet the faithful and loving adminis
trations abate not, as they sometimes
do, in cases of protracted sickness.
I also extend my heartfelt thanks
to my good physicians who, I am sure,
have done everything in their power
for my comfort and relief.
To say that, as long as my heart
continues to sove, it will move in
gratitude to these people, but feebly
expresses my feelings toward them.
Being unable to compensate them my
self, I can only pray that the alj-wise
and Almighty God, who doeth all
things well, may bless them as He
alone is able to do, and also resign us
all to His will, whatever that may be.
Yours in sore afflictions, but yet in
much gratitude,
MARY L. BANKS.

RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED ON
DEATH OF REV. MADDOX
Douglas, Ga., May 13, 1916.
The Coffee County Farmers’ Union
in session here today passed the fol
lowing resolutions, relative to the
death of Rev. W. J. Maddox:
Resolved, That in the death of our
beloved brother, W. J. Maddox, we
have lost one of our most devoted and
loyal members, and while we bow with
submission to the will of Him who
does all things well, we feel keenly
his loss and shall miss his earnest
work and wise counsil. Always ready
to do his share in bearing all burdens
and upholding the banner of Union
ism, honorably, fairly and earnestly.
Resolved, further, That the church
will miss his untiring labor for the
cause he esteemed so dear and for
which he had given the best of his
life for more than forty years. It was
his highest ambition to be of service
in the uplift of humanity and the
church.
Resolved further, That the commun
ity has lost one of its ablest and tru
est citizens, always patriotic and
ready to do and die, if need be, for the
cause of his flag and country. It is
significant to state here that he serv
ed the whole four years of the civil
war with teh commands of General
Jackson and General Lee, being at the
front in such bloody struggles as the
battles of “The Wilderness,” second
battle of “Bull Run,” “Gettysburg,”
anu many ethers. When the last try
ing hour came at the surrender at
“Appomattox” he was standing loy
ally with his command and among
the last to surrender - .
Resolved, That a copy of these res
olutions he g’ven the county tracers
and one be sent to the family of the
deceased.
Respectfully submitted,
C. T. DARLEY,
, F. M. FARISS,
J. R. OVERMAN,
Committee.
