Brunswick News : “Douglas is
not the first town that has a dose
of railroad bottling.” That may
be true, but Douglas has had about
as much of the bottling as she in

is afraid to give his name or post

Coffee County Fair Association.
Since the several fairs in different
sections of the State have been held,
some of our people are of the
opinion that there are a dozen far
mers in Coffee county who can ex
cel anything in that line seen this
year. We have some farmers in
Coffee county who, it is said, have
better stock, better poultry, better
cattle, and finer farm products than
anything of that kind shown at the
\\ aycross Fair. With a few gen
tlemen and leading farmers like B‘
H. Tanner, J. S. Lott, Dennis
\ ickers, W. M. Gaskin, Jesse Lott,
T. JI. Brown, Henry Vickers, Joe
Daughtery, T. Paulk, 11. C. Girt
man, 1. L. Cook, B. Peterson, T.
B. Marshall, J. B. O’Berry, J. M.
Ashley, C. A. Ward, and a hund
red-more, there would be no trouble
in getting up a county fair that
would be worth thousands of dollars
to this county.
Douglas would be the most eligi
ble site for such an undertaking, on
account of its situation, easy access
by railroads, Ac. Land for that
purpose can be secured in town or
near its limits, and the gentlemen
named, all being ambitious, enter
prising and full cf determination
to succeed or excel can make the
Coffee County Fair Association a
success from the jump. An organ
ization should be had at the spring
term of court, officers elected and
committees appointed.
<i> <s> <s>
Down in Mississippi recently a
young negto buck attempted to
rape a New York white lady who
was spending sometime there, when
lie was run down and captured by
the neighbors. The lady identified
him, the mob appointed a judge,
einpannelled a jury and lie was
found guilty. All executioner was
appointed and he was snatched into
eternity. The coroner’s jury found
a verdict that the “negro came to
his death by justifiable lynching.”
Score one for that Jury, a southern
mob and a northern lady. Now,
let bloody shirt squealers squeal.

Brunswick News: “We cannot
blame Douglas for registering a
kick on being bottled up by the A.
& B. and B. A B.” Nor can the
officers of the two roads. The re
ceipts at Douglas for the past few
months for the A. A B. railroad lias
been from $5,000 to $6,000, and the
mofith just closed over $7,000. But
the policy of the A. AB. and B. A
B. to bottle us up is like killing the
goose that laid the golden egg, and
Douglas is not such a goose as to
allow it. .Something is go.ing to
happen.

The grand juries in several coun
ties of the State have been finding
indictments against druggists who
sold Feruna, claiming that it was
an intoxicant. The manufacturers
have been notified and have replied
that l’eruna was a great medicine,
and while it might intoxicate it was
not manufactured for that purpose,
and it was hoped the druggists
would protect the manufacture by
refusing to sell it to people who did
not need it as a medicine.

It will be remembered that no
liquors of any kind are now sold in
the capital building. A few blocks
away there is a barroom, however,
which lias an eye for business. The
proprietor lias just placed a large
sign in front of the place which
reads going to the Capitol building,
“Last Chance,” and coming from
the building, “First Chance.” It
is needless to state that he is reaping
a harvest.—Doublin Courier.

Several of the New England cot
ton goods factories have announced
that they will have to suspend
operations soon on account of the
high price of cotton, unless they
reduce the wages of operatives.
What will be done has not been
decided upon, but is presumed the
wages will be reduced.
John Harris, the negro who
wantonly murdered a policeman in
Atlanta sometime ago, was tried,
convicted and sentenced to hang
last week, still lives, in order that
the supreme court, the pardon
board and the rest of the family
may have a chance to delay the
execution.
