and we now ask them, all and singular,
to be ready to meet us. Our accounts
are in most cases small, and we think
can be met without any great effort or
trouble, anJ we hope our patrons will

know we have been lenient, in that we
have not pressed any of those whe owe

but necessity compels us to call upon all
for a settlement without distinction,
and we ask to be as generously done by
as we have done. The fact is, we must
have every available dollar that is due
us, and we shall gently, but firmhj in¬
sist upon a settlement. Come around
and settle, or lie ready to meet us, as
you will shortly and surely be called

A Caution.
Caution is the parent of safety, and
as the time for putting up stoves and
building fires is at hand, we would cau¬
tion our people to see to it, and see to it
themselves, that stove-pipes, chimneys,
etc., are well cleaned and free from soot,
cobwebs and all inflammable matter as
a precaution against burnings. Foul
stove-pipes have caused more disastrous
fires than all other causes put together,
and it is common sense to attend care
fully to these things. Two fires have
already occurred this early in the sea¬
son ; one in Bainbridge, burning up
several buildings in the business part of
the town, and one in Savannah, destroy¬
ing thousands of dollar's worth of prop¬
erty. A little carelessness may cost
dearly, and lay your home in ashes,
when it will be too late to bewail an acci¬
dent that could haye been prevented.
Personal Mention*
Judge Jacob Rocker, of the (502d Dis¬
trict, G. M., Taliaferro county, was in
town a few days ago, and graced our
sanctum with his amiable counteance.
The Judge informs ns that he holds his
him from the summer's heat, and when
winter comes the leaves drop off, and
let in “the sunshine and the rain. ” We
suggest that Judge Rocker have his oak
morticed, and a drawer inserted in
which to keep hii court papers.

A Move in the Bight Direction.
Our Board of County Commissioners
have directed that tlie Road Commis¬
sioners in the several districts of tlie
county require the overseers of roads to
put tlieir respective roads in better condi¬
tion. To clear them out and work them
as the law directs, and to cut out all over¬
hanging branches of trees, that in any
way obstruct the passage of vehicles.
This is eminently proper in the Honora¬
ble Board. Any one who has occasion
to travel over our county roads, can not
fail to see that the common manner of
working them is a mere aham, aud in
many instances the roads are in worse
condition after than before working.
