The Age ol Slang.
It wasn’t so when I was young—
We used plainer language then ;
We didn't -peak of “tueui galoot*"
When meaning boys or men.
When speaking of a nice hand-write
Of J<**. or Tom, or Bill,
We did it )dain-wedidn’t quill.” say,

And when we saw a girl please, we liked,
Who never failed to
We called her pretty, neat ami good,
But not “about her dnese."
Well, when we met a good old friend
We \\ e greeted hadn’t him, lately lint seen, didn't say,
"Hello, you oid sardine."
Tin* boys sometimes got mad and fit ;
We spoke of k iks and blows
Bl.t now liny “whack on the snoot,"
And “) gbit b in on the liose.”
I Mice when a youth was turned away

He walked upon Ids feet—but now

We used to dance when I was young,
And used to cal! it so ;

The light fantastic
Of death we spoke in language plain,
That 110 one did perplex ;
But in 1 lo se days one doesn't die—
lie “passes ill hi#checks.”
We praised the man of common sense;
" llis judgUK-nt’s good,” we said ;
But now we say, "Hell, that old plum
Has gut a level ln-ail.”
