Lart week, the Anguita , papers . m-1
formed us that Mr. Wdb.-.sa il
would retire from the (uatugnuMMl a.id ■
proprietorship of the Augusta I/.d:-l j
on tire first of this mouth. We have
often enjoyed the hospitality of Mr.
Moofe, at tin Augusta, and hear of his
retircin nt with regret. lie has always
kept the Augusta up to the highest
si a::-lard among the best hotels, and
many a poor man lias had reason to he
thankful for his generosity. Wherever
be may go, we tender him our best
wishes for the prosperity and success of
liitasdf and family.

Religious Services.
We learn that the Pastor of the Bap¬
tist church has started the plan of hav¬
ing religious services at some private
bouse every Wednesday evening. The
idea is a good one ; and we hope will
meet with a hearty encouragement |
from bis church and congregation. It!
Las long been a reproach to our village |
that there is kept up no Wednesday
night prayer meeting. The fact seems
to be a reproach to the piety and intelli¬
gence of cur community, we are in this
particular so far behind other villages
that are less favored. There is, in fact,
no good reason why one or the other
of our houses of worship should not lx:
open every Wednesday uight. We have
liesides the eloquent pastor of the Bap
list church, a number of church mem
bers who profess the gifts of speech and
song to a sufficient extent to render such
gatherings interesting and profitable.
