Yesterday afterooon some time duriug the absence of Mrs. Browne from her dwelling, some one entered the house from the back door, after having un loosed the latch. The butter disli was left in the middle of the room, the bed was mashed, and a few other things moved from their proper places, but no thing was taken away. Col. Sullivan says it is a case of simple curiosity. Mrs. W. A. Wright. AVith great regret we announce the death of Mrs. Wm. A. Wright, wife of the state Comptroller General, which oc¬ curred in Atlanta last Wednesday morn¬ ing at ti o’clock. She was the niece of Mrs. Sullivan, of this place, wife of the former proprietor of this paper. She was siek only two weeks, but died per¬ fectly resigned and conscious to the last. We sympathise deeply with Capt. Wright in his sad bereavement. There are five small prattling children left motherless, and we feel for them. Wlio ^inill Sing, if not tiie Children I Yes, and play too, for that matter, but how it does cost to keep them in music. So it does, but why pay thirty to fifty cents |>er piece for music when you can get it for oue-tentli the sum by subscrib¬ ing for the Southern Musical Journal, which costs only $1.25 yearly, and brings you every month one dollar’s worth of Music, vocal and instrumental, and the best that is published. Besides this, the publishers give every subscriber as a pre¬ mium, one dollar’s worth of sheet music of tlieir owu selection. Remit $1.25 and you can get the Journal for a whole year • and $1.00 worth of any music you want. A specimen copy will be sent for ten cents in jostage stamps. Address the jmhlishers, Ludden A Bates, Savannah, Ga. --------- I>r. Linton Stephens who has been attending lectures in the Medical Col lege at Augusta, has returned to Craw fordville, and called to see us yesterday, Mr. Quintus Richards formerly of this place but now of liainburg S. Farmer have gone to Atlanta, and taken posi tions in the Post Office there. \V e wish them a pleasant life in the Gate City. Mr. Clarence Stephens, our worthy and efficient l’ost Master, we are sorry to say, is about to leave us, lie will soon accept a position as Postal Route Agent. His sister, Mrs. Corry, will doubtless be appointed to his place in the post office. Marshal Fitzsimmons went down to Augusta yesterday, but will return to Atlanta in a few days. Judge Pottle. We know that Judge Pottle has the full respect and love of our pedple, because they know him to be both wise and just; and should some one else be placed in his position at the expiration of his term, as is too often done for political reasons, such a change will not meet the approbation or support of the people of Taliaferro county. Give us Judge Pottle, and we feel our rights are safe. A new and beautiful chandelier orna¬ ments the Baptist church in this place. It was presented to the church by Mr. Caspar Myers, one of the most enter¬ prising merchants of Crawfordville—as will be perceived by the large advertise¬ ment he has in The Democrat.
