Miss Lillie Bnjrd the bright

The Washington county correspon¬
dent has the following : -‘I have read
a letter fro 11 Mr. BTry Blaekshaw in
which is the statement that a woman
in Johnson county recently gave birth
to seven children atone birth, all of
whom are alive and doing well.”
Our entire community was shocked
on Thursday last by the announcement
of the sudden death from paralysis of
Col. John R. Wilson. About three
years ago Col. Wilson was prostrated
by a stroke of paralysis, from which he
iie^er entirely recovered. Ou Thursday
morning lie went to Mesena on busi¬
ness, and while seated conversing pleas¬
antly, was again stricken with the
dread disease, and died almost iustant
iy
Late on Thursday afternoon last an
altercation occured in Thomson
between Mr. Jos. T. Smith and Ed.
Smith, Sr., colored, which came near
resulting fatally to the former. Ed.
was in the employ of Mr. Smith, and
the trouble, we learn, grew out of
the settlement of an account. Ed.
having contradicted Mr. Smith several
times, the latter struck him, or struck
at him, with a pattern of a plow han¬
dle which he happened to have in his
hand. Instantly the negro, who is a
powerful man, dealt Mr. Smith a fu¬
rious blow on thejjde of the head with
a pair of blacksmftfetongs, which fell¬
ed him bleeding' senseless to the
ground, and then fled. A long gash
was cut in Mr. Smiih’s hat, and a se
rious and very painful wound inflicted
on the side of his head and right eye.

Fannie McDaniel.
Little Sidney Buckner fell from a
fence last Saturday and broke his arm.
It was skilfully set by Dr. Roge'-s and
the little fellow is doing well.
The kitchen of Mr. W. H. Culver, of
Culverton. caught fire.on the night of
anp serious loss. It was a narrow
escape.
Hon. W. J. Nortben sells about
seventy-five dollars worth of the finest
butter per month. His daily farm is
certainly a valuable investment,

his other farm.
CRAWFORDVILLE, GA., FRIDAY, JUNE 1st, 1883.
Mrs. Michael Butler for years a citi¬
zen of Hancock county died of con¬
sumption in Milledgeville on the even¬
ing of the 25th inst., and her remains
were brought to Sparta for interment
on last Sunday. She was buried in the
Sparta cemetery according to rights of
the Catholic church; of which she was
a member.
Mr. Alonzo Birdsong was killed by
the 11 o’clock train on the M. & A. R.
R. between the Culverton depot and
his residence on last Monday night.
His body was found at the stock gap
about two hundred and fifty yards east
of the Culverton depot in a fearfully
mangled condition. The Coroner has
gone out to hold an inquest, and some
think the fact will be developed, that
he was killea and laid ou the track to
be run over by the train as a blind.
A calf was born on the place of Hon.
J. W. Moore last week with one body,
and two fully and distinctly developed
necks and heads. While its body was
very stout the only unusual feature of
it was, that just behind the front shoul¬
ders on the back, the spinal column
seemed to divide and its breast and
shoulders were very broad. Each was
beautifully formed, there being no con¬
nection between them except that they
both came from the same trunk. Each
head was of usual size, a perfect and
handsome formation. The calf was
dead when found- This is something
more peculiar than the three legged
colt now sporting in Linton.
