each of the others received several
bruises on and about the head. The

a very serious affair. The three Messrs.

—Would it not be well for the grand
jury next week to investigate the late
election held in this county for county
officers, and ascertain the number of il¬
legal votes cast for each candidate.
An overwhelming vote was polled es¬
pecially at Raytown, and doubtless ma¬
ny illegal votes were polled for each of
the candidates which should by all
means, be investigated, by the proper
authorities and all those,no matter who
they may be,who have violated the law
should he punished. The law plainly
says, who are entitled to vote, and pre¬
scribes a penalty for all who vote who
are not entitled to do so. Under Ou r
system of government, the person or
persons receiving the largest number of
legal votes are duly elected, but when¬
ever an overwhelming vote is polled
and the presumption is that illegal votes
were cast, we say let the matter he
investigated and let the law take its
course.

,l I wish May 3,1882.

valuable qualities of h
Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral
as a cough remedy.
“While with Churchill's army, just before
the battle of Vicksburg, I contracted a so
Vero cold, which terminated in a dangerous
®ouglr. 1 found no relief till on our march
we came to a country store, where, on asking
for some remedy, I was urged to try Aver s
Cherry- Pectoral.
•‘I did so, and was rapidly cured. Since
then I have kept the Pectoral constantly by
me, for family use, and 1 have found it to be
an invaluable remedy for throat and lung
diseases. J. W. Whitlev.”
Thousands of testimonials certify to the
prompt cure of all bronchial and lung
