FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 1886.
Hon, Sam J. Tilden died at his
home at Gravestone, N. Y, last
Wednesday morning.
The bright eyed, rosy cheeked girl
that knows how to work and isD »t too
lacy to do it, is the girl of the future
and of the country. The bee is
better than the butterfly.
A yonng woman of Ashton Dak.,
has a farm which she works all alone.
She has three horses, and last year
she raised 1,300 bushels of grain, and
now has seventy-five acres of wheat,
fifteen of corn, and is breaking up
more land. She averages about one
offer of marriage a mouth.
The case against J. H. Bowles and
JoneC. Bone, of Woodville, Green
county, charged with counterfeiting,
were heard last week before U. S.
Commissioner Haight, in Atlanta.
The testimony did not make out the
charge and District attorney so stated
to the court. The cases were dismiss
ed.
John K ly thought Samuel J. Til¬
den too and frail to run a second
time for resident. John Kelly is
■dead. Rachariah Chandler fought to
keep Tilden out of the Presdeucy.
Chandler is dead. Grant was Presi¬
dent when Tilden claimed to his suc
cessor. Grant is dead. Hancock
was Qominatsd as a more likely candi
date to live throngh the Presdency
ttian Tilden. Hancock is dead.
Hendricks seemed to ha ve long life a
ihead of him as compared with the
man at the bead of “the old ticket.”
Hendricks is dead. Seymour, McClel¬
lan, all the old candidates are dead;
i mean while, Tilden largely directs the
Democratic policity from Greystone

.streams gaily;o’er the ocean wave.
The Atlanta Capitol pays Hon.
jpatrick Walsh a high and deserved
tribute. No Georgian in the gnberna
J iT'ai campaign has occupied a more
" ^ Hon, Chroni¬ Pat¬
rick rtSu-i, of the Augusta
cle, A warm fnend of General Gor¬
don, he was committed to Major Ba
cou’s support, and Mr. Walsh always
stands tp his promises. He has con
ducted the campaign on the highest
possible plane, and made a model ad¬
vocacy of Major Bacons cause. We
do not underrate other support that
Bacon had, but in our judgement Mr.
Walsh was his most powerful, judici¬
ous effective prop. Ail honor to Mr.
W*lsh, whom the Capitol hopes to see
in the gubernatorial chair.”
A Snako Story.
The Marshallville Times is entitled
to the pastry for the following snake
story: “Mr. Fred Walker, who lives
near here, met with quite an advent¬
ure a few days since, Shortly after
retiring he was aroused from a sound
sleep by a crash of his crockery ware
falling broken upon the floor—cups,
saucers, plates and pitchers flying in
every direction, Hastily strikiug a
light and arming himself, be proceeded
to investigate, when, to his horror, lie
discovered that a huge rattlesnake was
the cause of all the mischief, After
dispatching him and upon closer ex
amination, he found that his snake
ship in crawling around had come
across some eggs deposited upon the
same shelf with the crockery ware;
these he had swallowed, and moving
on had passed a portion of his body
through the handle of the jug of but¬
termilk; more eggs were then found
and swallowed. These eggs prevented
him from going forword or returning,
and his desperate efforts to get away
had caused all the noise and deslruc
tion. This may seem like a snake
story, but Mr. Walker is willing to
testify to it3 truth.”
