Porter lost his gin house and fixtures by fire Friday night before last. This is the third fire io a mile of each other this fall. One was put out and the otheis burned down. Mr. Porter’s loss was quite heavy, estima¬ ted at six hundred dollars. It was an incendiary as t -e gin was run liy hors¬ es, Our people are very much stirred up and it would be 1 est for the one who did the burning to leave ffh pswts unknown, We hear there will bb* reward offered for i)ie ineeiidiary. Some fine stock and a variety of farm produce were on exhibition at Hancock county fair, Hon. W. J. Not then showed com¬ mendable zeal in his effort to make the late fair a success. Mr. II. A. Brantley, who had his cotton bouse and two bales of cotton d. stroved by fire about four weeks ago, lias met with another heavy loss. On the morning of the 1st, his crib and contents were burned. It io now the general belief that an incendiary is at work in our community. On the 19th of Oct. last, Mr. Reu¬ ben Stewai t, who had passed his four score years, fell asleep to await the resurection morn, His father was one of the organizers of the Presbyterian church at Bethany, which lately cele¬ brated tier one hundredth birthday.
