We Grand Jurors, selected, chosen end sworn to serve February Term of Superi¬ or Court of Taliafeno county in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hun¬ dred and Eighty-Seven make the follow¬ ing general presentments: Roads are reported in bad condition but the excessive rains have prevented such work as might be necessary a A e consid¬ er it liighlv essential and recommend that the small bridges and principal cross¬ ings be made wider of good thick, plank. Applications having already been made to the Commissioners and having been re¬ fused. causes this body to urge the atten¬ tion of the authorities to this matter. ,We cali special attention to the County Com missioners to the necessity of important repairs on Carter’s Bridge across Ogechee River. Through inspecting committees we have thoroughly examined the books of the Justice of the Peace a nd Notary Public ot the several districts and find them with few acceptions correctly kept and we take this occasion specially to compliment the neat manner in which the books of J. R. Kendrick, J. W. Roberts and W. C. Tay lor are kept. We have examined the books of the Clerk of the court and find them correct and neatly kept reflecting much credit on that officer. The committee i n Sheriffs books have been continued and report to the next Grand Jury in consequence of the present sickness of our shirlff. Also the commit¬ tee* on Ordinary’s books and County School Commissioner are requested to iB vestigate and report at the same time - We recommend that the County School Commissioner pay out no money until in¬ structed by the Board of Education. From the report on '’Public Buildings” we recommvnd that the fencing around tiie Court House have necessary repairs. While we regard the jail house in a very desirable condition, yet we do not deem it necessary to recommend any repairs at present but hope tiie finances of our county will soon authorize a better struc¬ ture. We recommend a flueof .b< '* tilts be built perpendicular from the sto.* in the court room through the Court House which we believe will enable the smoke to escape, as we have observed it very disagreeable during the present term. We recommend that the proper authori¬ ties establish a voting precinct in the 608 District G. M., known as Battery. We recomment that John T. Cooper be reappointed as Notary Public of the 608 District G. M. Also that W. C, Taylor he reappointed Notary Public of the 607 District G. M. The committee appointed to examine the books of county Treasurer, find them correct witli the following report: Ain't on hand at last report $575.60 M Received since 3087.07 Making total $3662,67 Am’t paid out with proper vouch ers 1129.79 44 on hand $2532.70 We recommend that our Ordinary adopt the proper methods with the authorities of Wilkes county to cha nge the County line from the mouth of Harden’s Creek mak¬ ing Little River the line between the counties of Wilkes and Taliaferro up to North Prong intersecting with the pres, ent line at that point. Also that our Or¬ dinary confer with the authorities of Greene and change the county line irom Silver fork on Little River to the Bunkley house on the Georgia Rail Road and tablish tiie original line between and Taliaferro counties. Onr body extend thanks to His Honor Judge Samnel Lumpkin for the light which was reflected in his able charge and we have endeavored to give our co-opera tion to his efforts in elevating the morals , of our county without fear or effection at the same time using such deliberat ion and discretion as has been dictated to us J™.'re y dT.’ e “ CT " t ' , ""‘ tUre To our worthy solicitor W.
