MARCH 25, 1887. A SUGGESTION. We have been some time thinking of our county and wondering why it is not possible to put our resources be fore the home seeking People or the crowded north, and Invite the good citizens from tlie north, ea t. west or south to come and help populate and enrich our county. Kindly think of this matter and we think , you will .11 agree with us that we could very well furnish cheap homes here in Taliafer ro county for good farmers and good people of various occupations, Our lands are up to an average witli other Middle Georgia counties; our streams are plentiful to run machinery;our tim¬ ber is sufficient to mi et the necessities of double the present number of in¬ habitants; the soil will grow almost any plant that is used by our people; t lie heal! hfulness of the county is un¬ surpassed— of course there is sickness and death in all counties—and our people are as good, morally and relig¬ iously as any people in the world. • What do we need? Canyon answer this question? We say that we need more money, more people \Vith money, with energy, w ith grit in their gizzard, with a general go-ahead spirit about them aud who will turn every piece ol land, wood, and stone info use. But, how are we to get such poople i"t.o our county? Why first provide a wav in wliich to invite them to your section und let them inspect your resources, aud it will then he an easy matter to sell them lands and they will improve the lands and thereby advance the county and your property. How (Gill we invite home seeking people to Tal¬ iaferro county? Organize a land com¬ pany in the county and let them cor¬ respond with the emigrant agents nortli aud east and invite them to send good people here for cheap and good homes. Hold a lupeting at the court house aud organize, and elect some of our best men at the he ad ^ma nagers M>vi nut wit iiivTYTBV *.•» man in the county 1 eport to the said managers such lands aud property that he has to dispose of, and then the scheme can be monaged successfully Union is strength, and we think if the above plan was adopted and pro¬ jected it would work wonders in this section. There have been wonders worked in just that way. T ds mat¬ ter has before been tefered to bv some of our best citizens aud it slioiul he sifted by every land owner in the county. Dxcltemcnt iu Tcx« » s Groat excitement lias been caused in tl»e viefftity of Paris, lex., by the re¬ covery of Mr. J. K. Corley, who was so lielptsas he could not turn in bed, or raise his head; every body said he was dying Of Consumption. A. trial buttle of Dr Kings New Discovery was sent him. Finding relief, lie bought a large bottle and a box of Dr. Kings New Life Pills; by the time lie had taken two hexes of Pills, and two- bottles of Hie Discovery ho wr well and had gained in flesh thir tV'SIx pounds. Trial Bottles of this Great Discovery for Consumption free at R. J. Reid’s: WHAT A TRAMP SAYS OF EURO¬ PEAN LABORERS. Iii liia very entertaining volume “How to we Europe for fifty cents a day,” Mr. Lee Mem wether does not give a very favorable picture of the condition of the laboring classes on tiie continent. Everywhere wages are so low that even the hardest style of liv ing , barely , , enables them to koep within their incomes. When man, wife and cl.il.!.™ »,v ,11 Mr i.iiitt'.l earnings suffices for ttie procurment of necessaries alone, with no margin for luxuries. There is no chance to lay up a dollar for a rainy day, nor to improve ore’s condition. This state of tilings he attributes to the burden of taxation imposed by vast and incal¬ culable costly military establishments and to their expensive aristocracy. Almost every power on the continent keeps a fourtli or a third of its adult males under at ms, H ereby removing them from the producing and placing them in Hie consuming class. In Brit¬ tain it is a little better—but only a lit¬ tle, For she too kieps up a huge mili¬ tary establishment, and the sums paid to the members of her very prolific royal family simply for U ing l’l inorl¬ and Princesses would scatter fight in many homes that are now dark. It must l>e admitted that they who advo¬ cate a change in the existing order of tilings in all these count lies, have much of the argument on tt.vir side But for those on this side the water xrbo Wish to create disturbance there i« neither logic nor excuse. While we have read criticisms upon this pioduc tion mote elaliorate and perhaps more : lea. ned, we can not now recall one in - which the subject was so fully discuss ed in so few words.
