March 151st 1887.— Friday last a meeting was held for the purp se of locating the site of the new Custom House and there was great wire working, it is said to se¬ cure ttle lots of citizens suitable for the location 01 the tmil 'ing. To the energy of Hon. George T. Barnes is ascribed the success in getting the ap propi iatiou for the purchase of the site ami the erection of the building. The Adkins House, No. HI I Ellis Street, kept by Mr. A. J. Adkins, is one of the la st kept houses In the State for the reasonable charges made. The table is well supplied witli the best the market affords; the rooms are neat ; beds good and every attention is paid tlie guests. The excellent music almost daily dispensed by Mr. A.’s charming daughters, Misses Fannie and Della and gentlemen boarders, is well worth the fare ial.es. The house lias telephone connection and electric lire alarm hells iu every room and free omnibus from railroad to the house. Mrs. A., who is an excellent lady and hostess, gives her personal attention to the cooking de pai Inient. The Augusta Gazette made Its ap¬ pearance Saturday last. It is well edited, well printed and we wisli it great success. It’s sole proprietor is Mr. B, M liter,a brilliant wi iter,former¬ ly with the Greenesboro Homo Journal and a veteran in the newspaper busi¬ ness.
