r p r\ I II E II E ilOC R A T. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY BY CLEM. C. MOORE. CRA WFOIII) VILIjE, OEOROIA. MniertA at the at Cr*wfoi drill*, Ck-org a t at M*con«l-€lr»a mail matter. FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 1888. COL. J. H. ESTILL. The special lit. l/>ula correspondents of the Atlanta Constitution and the Augusta Chronicle, are particularly spiteful against this honorable gentle man. Their remarks reflect altogether npon tnemselves and not on Col. Es till, for the people of Georgia know him too well to have any regard for these slurs aud slanders. Geneial Winfield Scott wa* once challenged to light a duel by a man who might thus have been brought to the notice of the public, as he never was. The brave old geneial respect fully declined the challenge, when the would-be belligerents m a rage said he would go over the count.y and brand Gen. Scott a* a coward. When in formed of tins remark the General, not takii.g his eyes from the [taper tie was reading, very finitely said “He will simply tie branding himself r liar. Tlie people of the United States know me.” These correspondents are simply showing up In their true light as slan¬ derers. They charge trading at the state convention in Atlanta to the end that Col. Estill should be made the Georgia member of the National Dem- j ! ocratlc executive crmmiUee. There was no more Hading than there was j for oiable any gentleman of the places filled who by represented the bon- j j Georgia at St. Louis. All of these places were canvassed for, the friends of eacli man doing what they could in an honorable way, for their favorite. It developed at the convention that Col. Estill was tire most popular man in the state for the place to which lie has been promoted; and there was no reason on earth why he should not Iw made committee-man from Georgia, except forsooth, that these sland^ws correspondent s o'ject to a prohibition* ist being put on 11 Nii’ic CfstUC t.itia j i<h frtiwt . • y /t*l y fourths of the democrats of Georgia art* ptohibitio nist, it is very meet and proper that they should have a voice iu choosing men who represent the state. Col. Estill nor any other good prohibitionist in Georgia, has been inimicated to the democratic party, Tn is is the shibboleth of democracy In this state. If a mail is a prohibition¬ ist we know by that that he is a demo¬ crat ami some are not.—Washington Gazette. We arriv¬ ed at the church in time tu take in the Sunday school, which we round in a flourish lug condition. We think the sister school had better look after the vocal interest of their schools, for Reynoldsville is well equipped for the Dr. Al. A. Thomas and T. E Masengale, the 8. S. orator for ihe Norwood circuit, addressed the school, which Rev. W. T. Caldwill preached a fine sermon. We partook the hospitalities of that sainted old Aunt Mary Felts, who is noted for her bouddless hospitality. Iu the afiernoon we visited another interest j n g school. It was no thouble to keep up with Mr. Reviere until the close of tt n latter school, and “Ulysses” drove around hunting him. His girllives in ttie neighborhood and that accounts for it.
