A report from New York says that the cotton received there packed in standard J pound cotton bagging is alright—better than was expected. Now the question is, “Do you use the stardaid weight bagging.” We hear several speak of weighing 50 yd. rolls and find that it only weighs 32 to 34 pounds when it should weigh 37j. Leading cotton men of our sea-ports say that much or the cotton is being put up ia an inferior covering and ttiat jt is coming into market in a bad condition. The same is said of it New York. It is said that the Liver pool merchants only want it well cov ered, making no difference what the material Is. According to these facts it seems that it is the duty of every producer l0 see that the bagging is sufficiently s j out to hold out to the promisl of the m|1|8 mak , nf? it . Jute is catching the black-eye this season. There has been ten rolls of cotton bagging shipped to this place to one of jufe. This will tickle the fancy of the Allianccmen. While speaking of this matter of cotton another thought on tare pre r, 1 T bm “;' k “ l "“ sertion simply to bring out the matter for information. Is is in such a shape that we will know we get this taie back after throwing off the 24 or 10 pounds here? We make this mention simply for infor rnation.
