D. N. Sanders, of this coun¬ ty, went to Atlanta Monday to accept a j osition on the People’s Party paper n that city. This goes to prove what we said tiiat the third party would do the farmers no good. It is making newspaper men and such like of good farmers. —Last Saturday’s action over the state proved conclusively that the peo¬ ple of Georgia are not so very anxious about the peoples party as to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Out of 36 counties reported, half of them did not act at all and a fourth of the 36 <>uld not get enough third party ad vocates together to organize. With the exception of one or two counties Talia¬ ferro had the biggest gathering of any. Be careful voters, you will go too far, say and do too much and then find that even the South is not following you. We have not heard of a single meeting in tiie cities where the labor organizations are expected to help the farmers out. The reappearance of lagrippe in Europe should warn Americans to be in readiness, in ease the epidemic returns to our shores. As tiie former chairman of your Ex¬ ecutive Committee, I feel called upon to give some expression of my senti¬ ments on the issues of the day. While physically unable to attend your meet¬ ing, I am with you In spirit, and would in my feebleness admonish all good citizens to battle for the good of our county. I see a danger threatening us politi¬ cally, comparable with that which en¬ compassed us in tiie days of reconstruc¬ tion. Indeed I consider it of greater magnitude, from the fact that then we had to battle as a whole against an element foreign to views of right and justice. Now there seems to lie a division among us as a people, and similar dangers threaten us to be met not as a Solid South, but as a divided people. Ouly in union is therestrength, land 0 ) 1 ! that those of our brethren jwlio seem inclined to leave tiie ranks the “old party,” could realize the threatening our beloved coun¬ Let not the enemy deceive you promises that can never be ful outside of tiie “old party.” I see the near future a glorious victory in by unanimity of purpose and a determination to stand solid for the principles of democracy. But should we go to the ballot box divided in sentiment, there is no computing the damage tiiat may result to us as a peo¬ ple. A continuance of Republican ascendency in power, is sure to follow, and that there is room for radical rule in our own beloved state, none car, doubt, and if the thiid party principles are indulged in to too great an extent, tiiere is danger of negro supremacy in even our county offices. I would as one bordering on the grave, beg our people to bait, and look into the future, realizing the dangers threatening us and may they, before too late, rally around the “old party” that has in days gone by done a > much for the South, and bear its standard , high . . above . reproach, . standing . .. as a sohd ... wail demanding .. of . .. the nation .. our rights as freeman. HY JACK SURAT Plenty of rain lust week. Farmers anticipate having to plant a great deal or their upland corn. Several from this section attended the mass meeting iu towu last Situr day. The People’s Party was reorganized last Satruday under very favorable auspices. Mad dogs are rampant in tire land it is reported, although we have not seen any ourselves. It is reported that our friend G. K. Gregory is going to home keeping or at least lie’s buying furniture. Mr. J. S. The success of Buch an undertaking is not very probable. Where was Bro. “Swamp Fox” last Saturday? Never mind brother Fox if you aiut with us we’ii ride you 011 a rail for your sassy conduct. Old boreas spread him self last Sat¬ urday night and Sunday, as if destruc¬ tion was his mission; trees, garden paling Ac. were blown belter skelter in these parts. Writers may hatch up falsa and erroneous ideas and cloth them in all the splendor that human philosophy is capable of, but when anal i zed in the light of reason and common sense, they generally exhibit stupidity and self conceit. It is high time that a stop was being put to this gambling business known 1 as dealing in futures; we have heard a great deal said about tiie Louslana Lotery and others but when these are compared with the latter, the lottery business pales into insignificance. We had tiie pleasure of meeting Bro. “Wanderer” last Saturday. “Wanderer” is good company and tiie beet of his disposition is he wants to participate in all that Is good and bear his portiou of ths burden. lie’s al ways in the middle of tho roae and “er gwine face foremost.” j He who holds parly above principle and worship men instead of measures will never be any service iu the great j effort to elevate man kind but is aid ing in tiie destroying of his own liberty and that of his fellow and the ' man establishment of an absolute despot- : ism. Mr. K. is an industrious farmer, raises all he eats at home, he says the money we have isgood enough for him if he can just get enough of It. A man went to Barnett one day last week to get a half peck of peas for table use; he could not purchase them for love or money, although they had two or three barrels on hand, conse¬ quently lie had to go to Sharon four miles off to get that little item. Times are light at Barnett we supitose. Dr. R. J. Mr. Editor: In your last issue you reply to Oapt Sanders and say that we can get what we need through the Democratic party. So say I, provided the democratic party of today, was the party of true Jeffersouiou principles. But what do we find at present iu that organization. We find high tariff democrats, low tariff democrats, free silver and anti free silver democrats in favor of national banks, (the gover raents pets) and those apposed to that paternal institution democrats in favor of enough money to do the business of the country, and those in favor of Wall Struct New York aud Lombard Street London dictating the flnancil policy of this Govorment. Now Mr. Editor if you will examine that old platform established by Mr. Jefferson Hnd adopted by Jackson, Calhoun and Benton, yon will see quite a difference. But how will you pric ed to get what the laboring people need, which is, equeal rights to all, and special privil iges to none. But Mr. Editor, I be¬ lieve I can see your way out, it is by going in the convention, electing a democratic President and all w ill be well. Suppose we see how that will work. The solid south will send a solid delegation to Chicago and they will bo met by the rodden New lug laud States, that have voted the re¬ publican ticket, for low these many years aud never have furnished any aid to democratic eanditates, by l 1 e midle States all controled by the gold bugs, oven Delcware aud M uylaud Southern States so called oppossad to all financial relief and why, becauae they have the money and always hnve had and are so selfish that tin y want it now aud for all times to come, and use the South and West as their hew¬ ers of wood and drawers of water for ever, which they have done since tJie foundation of the goverment. But suppose we go to the West and see what support we cau get from there in the convention. 1 daut think It will be denied, that ait the we-Urn States heretofore have voted the KapubHcan ticket, and the majority belong to the laboring class of that party, so we And no support there for the leaders of democracy are wedded to the gold bug theory quite as much so as the down Easter is. But Mr. Editor, let us cmne nearer home, to our own be¬ loved South land aud wtiut do we Aud here. First and foremost we And that iufatlible apostle of true Jeffersonian Domocracy Carl isle of Kentucky, vot¬ ing with tiie worst enemy the laboring class in Arneri ca ever bad, the dis troger of thou sands of homes, (thous¬ ands of times worse than his brother Bill Sherman who was guilty of h Is famoua march to see and through Carolina, which has teen obliterated by time, by people building to ttie chimneys, and thus destroyed his truck) scattered all oyer this country, the arch trator, whose painting is hanging today in the hunk of Inglands building, beside fameous Alexander Hamilton the first aristocrat in this goverment aud advocate of centraliza¬ tion of powe? into the hands of the money class, the man who is ever ready to oppress the Houth, and the mao who has Juat been send back to the Senate from Ohio for six more years to apprises his people with gold l ug rule John Bherman, I say Carlisle voting with him against ffeo silver, 1 usk what can you exspect from such democracy.
