HOBOKEN NEWS
By MRS. G. C. WALLIS
Thought for the week: Mother’s
love is like an island in life’s ocean,
vast and wide, a peaceful, quiet
shelter from the wind, and rain
and tide. “Tis bound on the north
by Hope, By patience on the west,
by tender council on the south and
on the east by Rest.’’ Above it like
a beacon light shines faith, and
truth and prayer; and through the
changing scenes of life, I find a
haven there. Author unknown.

Opportunity for
Women in the Navy
In their eleven years of existence,
the WAVES have proven their value
in the defense of our country. In
the many positions they are capa
ble of filling, young women of the
Navy have demonstrated that they
can serve and be of vital help to
the entire defense effort.
Although the greater number of
them, are assigned to Naval Shore
Establishments in the United States,
WAVES may volunteer for over
seas shore duty assignment in Ger
many, Italy, France and England.
These young women are well paid,
enjoy good living conditions, and
have many interesting jobs such as
aerographer, photographer, machine
accountant, dental technicians, ail
controlman, some serve as steward
ess on the cross country flights.
. If you are between the ages of
18 and 25, are a high school grad
uate, and above average in other
respects, get in touch with the Navy
Recruiter, Chief Russell, in the Post
Office Building, Waycross, Georgia,
Phone 2131. A call or letter to this
address may make the difference
between success and routine life to

Devils of Gossip
Like to Make
Hell on Earth
I am. more deadly than the
screaming shell from a howitzer; I
ruin without killing. I tear down
homes; I break hearts and wreck
lives. I have no respect for truth or
justice, no mercy for the defense
less. You will find me in the pews
of the pious and the haunts of
the unholy. I am wily, cunning, ma
licious — and gather strength with
age. I make my way where greed,
mistrust and dishonor are unknown.
I feed on good and bad alike. My
victims are as numerous as the
sands of the sea and often as in
nocent. I never forgive and seldom
forget. My name is gossip.
Speeding on U. S. streets and
highways last year killed 13,430
men, women and children.
