Power Company to
Build New Line
And Substation
Work will start soon on a new
power line and substation to pro
vide additional power for the town
of Folkston, E. C. Rees, vice presi
dent of Georgia Power and Light
Company, has announced.
The new transmission line of 6,000
volt capacity will replace the pre
sent 19,000-volt line which has be
come overloaded due to the growth
of Folkston and the increased use
of electricity, Rees said.
Scheduled for completion early
this fall, the new 38-mile line from
Waycross will improve voltage con
ditions and provide more reliable
electric service for Folkston.
A new substation will also be
built in Folkston to step-down the
voltage of the power for distribu
tion to homes, stores and farms.
"The construction of these new
facilities at a cost of many thou
sands of dollars,” Rees said, “is in
keeping with our company policy of
doing everything possible to provide
reliable electric service at economi
cal rates to the communities we are
privileged to serve.”
