Sgt. Strickland
Dies In Japan
Word has been received by Mr.
and Mrs. G. Newton Strickland
who live at Still Lake, five miles
from Winokur, Ga., from the U.
S. Army in Washington, that
their son, Sgt. Wilbur J. Strick
land, became ill in Korea, was
transferred to Japan, where he
died December 15, 1953. His body
will be returned to Blackshear
for interment.
Sgt. Strickland was a native
of Pierce county. He was 33
years old and had been in the
U. S. Army for 14 years.
When St. Strickland’s body is
returned to Blackshear he will
be taken to the home of his sis
ter, Mrs. Oliver Robison, near
Blackshear. Funeral services and
interment will be held at Pros
pect Primitive Baptist Church,
ten miles south of Blackshear on
the Blackshear - Trudie highway.
Elder Algerine Boyett and Rev.
H. L. Dixon will officiate.
Other than his parents, Sgt.
Strickland is survived by two
sisters. Mrs. Oliver Robisoo,
Blackshear, and Mrs. Leo King,
Patterson; three brothers, J. G.
Strickland, Waycross and D. M.
and J. T. Strickland of Lake
Worth, Fla.
Definite funeral arrangements
will be announced upon the ar
rival of Sgt. Strickland’s body in
Blackshear. ’
Darling Funeral Home will be
m charge of arrangements.

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL NEWS
The W.S.C.S. of the Nahunta
Methodist Church met at the home
of Mrs. J. B. Lewis on Friday, Dec.
18 for the annual Christmas party.
Mrs W. C. Carter is the new presi
dent. Mrs. C. F. Starnes opened the
meeting with a prayer. A reading,
“The Christmas Tree’ was given by
Miss Gladys Wynn. “The Advent
Season” by Mrs. J. B. Lewis. Car
ols were sung by the group. Boxes
of fruit were packed for .the “shut
ins”. Gifts were exchanged. Mrs, J.
Y. Chambers assisted heK’^ster,
Mrs. Lewis, in arranging fu» self
service refreshments consisting of
angel fqod cake, lime jello' cran
berry marmalade, ribbon "and round
sandwiches, tole house and nut
cookies, and hot cranberry punch.
Eleven members were present.

at Tifton is home with his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. ..Aaron Sadd
ler for the holidays.
Mrs. Imelda Kirkland and son,
Clarke, left for their home in Dub
lin, Ga., after spending several days
with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnes.
Mrs. J. Y. Chambers has returned
to her home in Valdosta, after
spending four days with Mrs. J. B.
Lewis. Mr. Chambers came Friday
night for the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lewis spent
Monday of this week in Savannah.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buchanon and
Kifr. and Mrs. Russell Millis and
children of Jacksonville spent Sun
day with Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Ro
binson.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Knox and
children are spending some time
with Mrs. W. S. King.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Robinson
spent last week end with relatives
in St. Augustine, Fla.
Mrs. Lloyd Blocker of Alabama
is spending the holidays with her
mother, Mrs. S. C. M. Drury.
Miss Agnes Jacobs, who has been
teaching in Moultrie, has returned
home. She will teach in the Hobo
ken school after Christmas.
Miss Frances Walker of GSCW
is spending the holidays at home
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.
F. Walker.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyde Thomas of
Statenville, Ga., were dinner guests
of the L. W. Robinson family on
Saturday.

holidays with her parents, Rev. and
