Thought for the week: Father of
our world today, make it safe for
work or play; and about the boys
w F ho are overseas, answer anxious
mothers’ pleas. Tall majestic pine
trees stand made by our Father’s
mighty hand, who tried to make
our world sin free, safe and fit for
you and me. — Nancy Peck.

SCHOOL FOR
FOOD HANDLERS
WELL ATTENDED
Brantley County’s two-day sani
tation school for foodhandlers in
restaurants and other eating estab
lishments was a conspicious success,
Dr. J. L. Sawyer, commissioner of
health, declared. Fifteen persons
will receive certificates for atten
dance of the two sessions.
Sponsored by the Health Depart
ment and the Board of Education,
the school was under the direction
of Tom E. Ireland, of the Health De
partment’s Division of Environment
Sanitation.
Lectures, illustrated with slides
and film strips showed proper me
thods of handling, serving and
storing food to prevent food poison
ing. Other talks covered the ap
proved techniques of washing and
santitizing utensils. The value Os
paper service in breaking the chain
of possible contagious disease spread
was discussed, and correct handling
of paper cups and containers was
demonstrated.
Participating in the program in
addition to Dr. Sawyer and Mr. Ire
land were Herschel Herrin, County
School Superintendent Lamar Gib
son, local attorney at law;; Mrs.
Sarah B. Tichnor, Regional Lunch
Room Supervisor, State Department
of Education; Mrs. Rebecca Griner,
Public Health Nurse; and E. F.
Golden, Regional Food Sanitarian,

In presenting the certificates of
attendance, Dr. Sawyer expressed
his gratification with the interest
shown by the large number of food
handlers attending, and urged ev
eryone to put into practice the safe
ty rules which had been demon
strated in the classes.
“Its’ for your own protection as
well as for the protection of the
customers,” he said. “Besides, clean
liness rings the bell with the res
taurant patron and keeps your cash
register ringing, too.”
