SIGNS APPLICATION FOR BUILDING FUNDS - Pierce
County School Superintendent T. H. Strickland is shown
as he signed the application for $799,988 in building
funds for Pierce county schools. The application was
approved Jan. 20 by the State Board of Education.

The Baptist WMU of Hoboken
met at the Baptist Church on Mon
day night for the regular monthly
meeting. The meeting was opened
with a song with Mrs. Nolan Davis
Sr. at the piano and Mrs. J. H.
Sikes leading in prayer.
Mrs. G. C. Wallis dedicated the
program on the topic “The World
at Our Doorstep”. Mrs. J. C. She
pard, Mrs. J. H. Sikes, Mrs. Wade
Colvin and Mrs. R. R. Jones gave
interesting talks. Mrs. L. C. Colvin
led the devotional.
Mrs. R. R. Jones presided over
the business session. Mrs. Jesse
Dryden was secretary.
The Peidmont Association Rally
of the YWA will be held at the
Hoboken Baptist Church on Mon
day night, Feb. 15. Mrs. Banner
Thomas of Hoboken is' associationa)
leader.

Benjamin Chancey,
65, Passes Away
After Illness
Funeral services for Benjamin
C. Chancey, 05, who died in
Milledgeville, Ga., Monday after
an extended illness will be held
Thursday morning, January 28,
at 11:00 o’clock at the Ramah
Primitive Baptist Church near
Blackshear. Interment will be in
the churchyard cemetery. Rev.
Aldolph Stanfield and Rev. H.
Lester Dixon will officiate.
Mr. Chancey was a native of
Pierce county and had lived here
all his life following farming as
a vocation. He has been sick for
several years.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Annie Smith Chancey of Black
shear; three daughters, Mrs. Myr
tle Taylor of Jacksonville, Mrs.
Vernon Blalock of Mershon, and
Mrs. Grace Thrift of Blackshear;
five sons, Estes, Willard and Les
ter Chancey of Jacksonville,
Parker and Osborne Chancey of
Bldckshear; one step son, Billie
Thomas of Blackshear; five step
daughters, Mrs. J. M. Hensley,
Mrs. Grace Thrift and Miss Faye
Thomas of Blackshear; Mrs. Les
ter Moody of Hortense and Mrs.
James Chastain of Waycorss;
three half sisters, Mrs. Florence
Thofnas of Jacksonville, Mrs.
Gertrude Rowell of Hazlehurst
and Mrs. Connie Anderson of
Screven; four half brothers, Law
ton Hodge of Blackshear, Brant
ley Hodge of Jacksonville, Elver
Hodge of Patterson and Alex
Hodge of Jacksonville. He had
27 grandchildren.

Walker, Preston Kirkland, Maur

Oscar Raulerson and Charlie
Waters.
