2 NEW TOBACCO WAREHOUSES
BEING BUILT NEAR BLACKSHEAR
Two new tobacco warehouses, of 102,400 feet of
floor space each, are being constructed near Blackshear
by B. B. Rogers, of Live Oak, Fla., on 10 acres of land
recently purchased from C. C. Johnson.
Preliminary work is now in
progress on the two structures,
both of which will be 320 feet
square. Foundation material and
some of the lumber is already on
the grounds, and work is expect
ed to begin on full scale next
week.
Heavy earth-moving equipment
has been in use at the site for
several days, leveling the area
so construction work could begin.
Mr. Rogers, a native of Fuquay
Springs, N. C., whose present
home is in Live Oak, Fla., said
this week that the new ware
houses would be operated under
the name of Banner Tobacco
Warehouses. He said he was
building “at least two” ware
houses and indicated that further
construction is being considered.
Mr. Rogers has previously
built warehouses at Live Oak,
Fla., Jasper, Fla., Shelbyville,
Ky., and a number of other to
bacco markets in Florida, North
Carolina, and Kentucky. He said
it is uncertain as yet whether
he himself will operate the ware
houses being built at Blackshear,
but stated they will be completed
in time for the 1954 auction
season.
The new Warehouses will be
of wood frame, with concrete
floor and corrugated metal sides.
They are to be located on High
way 121 about one mile north of
Blackshear.
It is understood that three or
'four associates of Mr. Rogers
also have an interest in the con
struction at Blackshear, but these
associates have not been named.
Army Pfc. Joseph E. Johnson,
whose wife, Elouisc lives at Ho
boken, was recently transferred to
the 25th Infantry Division in
Korea. His parents, Mr. and Mrs
W. H. Johnson, live on Route One
Patterson.
