Rome, Ga. have returned to their
home after spending five days v
their daughter, Mrs. Johnny Lar
kins. Mr. Mooney is the agricul
turist at Berry College in Rome.
. Mrs. Darcy Shepard of Waycross
spent the week end with ReV. and
Mrs. J. C. Shepard.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore have
moved to the S D. Kelly cottage
where they are now residing. Mr.
and Mrs. Moore are recently mar
ried.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyde Thomas and
two sons were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Banner Thomas for the week
end.

Group Will Study Conservation
Measures to Offset Droughts
Many city and county Officials, state representatives,
the county agent, bankers, Farm Bureau leaders and
farmers of Nahunta and Brantley County have been
invited to attend the Satilla River Watershed meeting
which will be held in Waycross at the Ware County
Courthouse on Thursday, July 29, at 8 P. M.
Officials of the United States
Soil Conservation Service, who
have been making a preliminary
survey of the Satilla River and
its tributaries, will be in Way
cross to outline the possibility of
setting up some kind of an or
ganization to promote flood con
trol, soil and water conservation
along the Satilla River and its
tributaries.
The droughts of recent years
have caused great concern over
the fast declining water table in
the Satilla River watershed and
every citizen interested in halt
ing this distruction of our natural
resources is invited to attend.
Congressman Don Wheeler of
the Eight District Will also be
one of the speakers on this oc
casion. Senators Richard B. Rus
sell and Walter George have also
been invited.

THURSDAY, JULY 22, 1954
Mr. E. B. Newton of Hoboken was
honored with a birthday dinner by
twenty-nine members of the family
on Sunday, July 18, at Laura Walker
Park. The occasion was his 84th
birthday. A basket dinner was ser
ved at the noon hour.
Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Spell and
son, Dale, have returned to their
home after vacationing several
weeks in Adrian, Ga. and Fort Val
ley.
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Kelly and son
of Wilmington, N.C. spent Thurs
day night in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. R. R. Kelly. Mr. R. R. Kelly
will accompany them upon their
return to North Carolina to visit
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dowling and
children visited Mr. and Mrs. Rea
vis Pittman of Folkston and Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Orser of Blackshear
in their cottage in Fernandina, Fla.
on Sunday.

that before the Judge of the Super
ior Court of Brantley County, Geor
gia, on the 31st day of July, 1954,
at 3 o’clock P. M., at the Courthouse
in Nahunta, Georgia, there will be
heard the case of the State of Geor
gia vs. City of Nahunta in Brantley
Superior Court, the same being a
proceeding to confirm and validate
an issue of Water Revenue Antici
pation Certificates, Series 1954, in
the principal amount of $115,000, to
be issued by the City of Nahunta
for the purpose of financing the
construction of additions, improve
ments and extensions to the water
system of the City of Nahunta and
equipping- the same; and any citi
zen of the State of Georgia residing
in said City, or any other person
wherever residing who has a right
to object, may intervene and be
come a party to these proceedings.
This the 22nd day of July, 1954.
