Concrete Bridges Replacing Wood Structures
New Turtle River Bridge on Waynesville - Browntown road. This three-span
concrete bridge, about 50 feet long, was completed by the county commissioners in
October.

Three other concrete bridges have
been completed in the county, in
addition to structures shown in
the pictures.
They are as follows:
A 64-foot bridge, known as the
Annie Altman Bridge, near Ho
boken. This span was completed in
1953.
A 32 foot concrete bridge near

ed that the paving on Route 32 bet
ween Hortense and Patterson has
been completed.
Also, that they have completed
purchase of borrow pits for fill ap
proaches to bridges east of Hortense
on Route 32. The bridges on this
unfinished section of Route 32 will
be started sometime this month, the
commissioners report.

Methodist Youth
At Pierce Chapel
Methodist Youth Fellowship of
Pierce Chapel Methodist Church
will meet each second and fourth
Sundays in each month at the
church at 6:30 P.M. Wesley Crews
is president.

BRANTLEY BOOTH
WINS FIRST AT
WAYCROSS FAIR
The booth sponsored by Brantley
County won first piize of SSO at
the Waycross Fair Tuesday, Nov. 2,
it is announced by George Loyd,
county agent.
Mr. Loyd and Mrs. Sarah Simp
son, home demonstration agent,
were in charge of the Brantley
booth which was arranged to port
ray the progress of the county.
Charlton and Pierce counties also
entered booths at the Fair .but
Brantley’s entry topped the- three
contestants and was awarded the
SSO cash prize.
M ahunta PTA to
let at Hickox
The Nahunta High School P.T.A.
will meet at the Hickox School
Monday night, Nov. 15 at 7:30 P.M.
The program topic is “Be Thankful
to live in a Democracy” with Mrs.
Dan Jacobs as program chairman.
Hostesses for the evening will be;

THOMAS SPEAKS
AT BAPTIST
CONVENTION
Rev. Cecil F. Thomas, pastor of
the Nahunta Baptist Church, preach
ed the main sermon at the Georgia
Baptist Convention at Augusta
Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Rev. Mr. Thomas recently accept
ed the pastorate of the Nahunta
Baptist Church and began his min
istry' here Sunday, Nov. 7. He and
his family will move to Nahunta
from Nichols, Ga., where he has
been pastor for 18 years.
TALMADGE DIXON
SERVING IN JAPAN
WITH MARINE DIVISION
Marine Pfc. Talmadge Dixon, son
of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Dixon of
Route .2, Nahunta, Ga., serving in
Japan with the 3rd Marine Division,
participated with the 3rd Shore
Party Battalion’s drill team which
won the Division’s drill competition
October 23.
Performing with bared bayonets,
an added incentive to accuracy, the
team manuevered its way through
a variety of intricate formations to
outpoint teams representing other
battalions in the 3rd Marine Divi
sion.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnes are
•pending this week in Swainsboro.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lastinger have
returned after a visit with Mr. and
Mrs. Billy Dominy and Mr. and Mrs.
Welch in Birmingham, Ala.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sweat and
•laughters of Jacksonville visited
friends and relatives in Hoboken on
Sunday.
Members of the W.M.U. at the
Hoboken Baptist Church held a
study class on the ‘Woman’s Mis
sionary Manual” on Nov. 5 with
Mrs. Floyd Larkins as director.
Nine members were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Calhoun Colvin of
Brunswick s cat the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Colvin. During
their stay they attended the Geor
gia-Florida football game in Jack
sonville on Saturday.

conduct the regular worship ser

Church on Sunday afternoon, Nov.
14 at 3:00 P.M.
Mr. and Mrs. Purvis Bulloch of
Raleigh, N.C. are spending several
days in Hoboken.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Scurry of Pat
terson visited Mrs. Wade Colvin and
other relatives on Sunday.

TO DEBATE
AT NAHUNTA
Four high school of the Eighth
Congressional District will send re
presentatives to Nahunta on Wed
nesday evening, Nov. 17, at 7:30 to
vie in a debating contest on th®
subject: Resolved: “That Our Gov
ernment Should Initiate a Policy of
Free Trade with Nations Friendly
to the United States.”
The affirmative side of the ques
tion will be argued by "Alvin Lee
and William Royster of the,-Nahunta
School against the negate team
of Clinch County High Sdhool. The
negative side will be upheld by
Darlene Drury and Wade Strick
land of Nahunta against the affirma
tive team from Patterson. The nega
tive team from Patterson will de
bate the Affirmative of Camden
County and the Negative of Camden
will debate the Affirmative of
Clinch.
In the event of absence of a Ne
gative or Affirmative debater of
the Nahunta teams, Polly; Moody
and Willene Rowell will be in re
serve to fill the vacancy.
Birth Announcements
Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Morgan an
nounce the birth of a boy weighing
six pounds on Friday, Nov. 5. He
has been named Terris Nicky.
