“LET US REASON TOGETHER”
y‘ Rev. D. A. Lastinger, Retired Methodist Minister
ESAU AND HIS BIRTHRIGHT.
Esau deliberately stepped out of
the line of royalty, and with a
single stroke of the pen struck
his name off the roll of the great
and honorable. With his name he
headed 'a long list of the names
of those who have bartered away
life’s spiritual possibilities to
gratify the fleeting pleasures of
a moment.
Esau was “a cunning hunter,
a man of the field”. Jacob was a
sort ot home-body. One day Esau
came in from the hunt, tired,
"And" Jacob sod pottage”. Esau,
being hungry, said, “Feed me”.
Jacob said he would—for his
birthright. Esau said he was “at
the point to die”—which was
false or he could not have walk
ed home. The plain truth was he
did not value his birthright more
than the present gratification of
his appetite.
This is a striking illustration of
every sinner’s reasoning and
practice. They do not want to
die and sink into eternal perdi
tion. But they will sell their

Aids Program
During the .month of February
the 55 state and regional Heart
Associations conduct heir annual
drives to raise the funds neces
sary to carry on the Heart Pro
gram. The Georgia Heart Asso
ciation, in addition to its share
in the national program, has de
veloped and is maintaining a pro
gram of heart research, educa
tion and community services se
cond to none.
Greatest emphasis is placed on
the Georgia research program
since it is recognized that there
can be no basic advances toward
the control of heart disease with
out new knowledge. We need ad
ditional information about the
causes of heart disease. Although
there have been outstanding ad
vances in the last few years, we
need still more effective methods
of diagnosis and treatment for
heart patients,' and we need to de
velop new surgical techniques to
extend the rapidly advancing
field of heart surgery.
The Georgia Heart Association
has established Chairs and Labor
atories of Cardiovascular Re
search at each of Georgia’s two
medical schools. Through these
and other research grants, the
Association is actively encourag
ing the development of centers
of heart research and treatment
within the State
New knowledge is of real value
only when it is put into the hands
of those who can make use of it.
To keep the physicians of the
State abreast of the latest informa
ion on heart diseases, the Geor
gia Heart Association sends to
each of them a monthly scienti
fic bulletin; the Association spon
sors annual scientific sessions
bringing world-renewed heart
specialists to share their know
ledge and experience with Geor
gia doctors; speakers and pro
grams on various aspects of heart
disease are provided for local,

That is why men and women

They “loved darkness rather than
light, because their deeds were

In the field of community ser
vices, the Georgia Cardiac
Clinics, sponsored by the Heart
Association, provide free diagno
sis and treatment for indigent
heart patients from all parts of
the State. County Heart Councils
are now being organized through
out Georgia to assist the people
of their communities in securing
the heart services available to
them and to provide solutions to
local problems such as transpor
ation to clinics and drug supplies,
and homebound instruction for
the younger heart patients.
These services and programs
are maintained entirely by volun
tary contributions to the Heart
Fund. Your support is needed.
