CORN SUPPORT PRICE
The support price for the 1955
corn corn will fall within a range
of 82% to 90 percent of the
parity price at the beginning of
the marketing year. However,
since Georgia is not in the com
mercial corn area, Georgia farm

only 75 percent of the support
level for the commercial area.
More than 3,000,000 acres of
Georgia land are now in grass,

Grace Hartley of The Atlanta
Journal recently featured Mrs.
Oswell Smith, homemaking
teacher at Patterson, and her de
partment in one of three illustrat
ed news stories which will ap
pear in The Atlanta Journal.
Miss Hartley took pictures of
the boys and girls in the senior
homemaking class. She arrived
at the school just in time to see
the dasher being removed from
an old-fashioned ice cream churn
and to see one group pouring up
a cooking of syrup candy. Pict
ures were made of the group
eating large helpings of ice cream
and pulling candy. Mrs. Smith’s
recipes for the coconut ice
cream and candy were given in
the article.
Miss Hartley commended the
group on the department, which
they furnished themselves.
During the summer a story on
community picknicking at Lions
Park will appear in The Journ
al Magazine.
Mrs. Smith is an active mem
ber of the Patterson community.
She has taught the Baptist Lad
ies’ Bible Class for the past ten
years. She is a past P. T. A.

cently she has written an article
for a national magazine, “I Teach
In The Country,” which will be
published soon.
The story about Mrs. Smith
in The Atlanta Journal has
brought her many letters and
telephone calls from state edu
cators congratulating her and
her husband on their work for
the past 15 years in the Patter
son School.
