See Georgia First,
Safely and Sanely,
Over Labor Day
ATLANTA — Drive a reason
able distance at a reasonable
speed. That’s the number one
rule for a safe Labor Day week
end trip, according to Allen
Charlesworth, Travel Manager of
the Georgia Motor Club (AAA).
“Trying to fit trips that should
take a week into a three day
weekend lowers driving efficien
cy and tempts motorists to speed.
Tragic accidents are all too often
the result,” Charlesworth said.
He also pointed out that ex
haustion from driving too far in
one day spoils the fun of visiting
new places, and that a long one
day return trip leaves the motor
ist unfit for the next day’s work.
The motor club official suggests
that Georgians "take safe advant
age” of the summer’s last long
weekend by traveling short dis
tances and discovering the pleas
ures available in their native
state.
“Georgians are fortunate,”
Charlesworth said, “in having so
many delightful places within
easy driving distance. From the
gold panning region of Dahlone
ga to the Golden Isles of the
coast, Georgia offers a wealth of
recreation facilities.”
The travel expert mentioned
the state parks as a fine solution
to Labor Day travel problems,
observing that at least one park
is within a few miles of every
Georgia community.
“Every resident of the state
should also at some time visit
such spots as the Little White
House at Warm Springs; Ida Ca
son Callaway Gardens, near
Chipley; Okefenokee Swamp
Park, near Waycross; and the
natural wonders of North Geor
gia’s mountains,” added Charles
worth.

PIMIENTO PRODUCTION
Georgia leads the nation in
production of pimientos for pro

is about one ton per acre. Horti
culturist Cecil Blackwell of the

said proper fertilizer practices is
one way to increase yields. Black
well said the goal is to raise the
