Palate TO GEORGIA COUNTIES
Near Lumpkin, Stewart County Seat, are the Providence
Canyons. The largest of the group is 300 feet wide and 200
feet deep, displaying a dazzling array of 9 colors, a cross
section of the eroded soil. Situated on the Chattahoochee,
Stewart was the home of a large number of Creek Indiana,
whose mounds are now being excavated by archeologists.
One of the last Indian battles in Georgia was fought at
Shepherd’s Plantation in 1836.
In Stewart County and throughout Georgia, the U. S.
Brewers Foundation works constantly to assure the sale of
beer and ale under pleasant, orderly conditions. Believing
that strict law enforcement serves the best interest of the
people of Georgia, the Foundation stresses close cooperation
with the Armed Forces, law enforcement and governing offi
cials in its continuing "self-regulation” program.
