Korea-Based Gl's Ask Help
In 'Operation Santa Claus'
Dear Editors:
The 7th Infantry Division, of
which my unit is a part, is con
ducting a drive to collect shoes,
clothing, toys, school supplies,
such as paper, pencils, pens, and
similar items to distribute to
needy Koreans in our area for
Christmas. We feel that you at
home would like to take part in
this worthy project, too.
Many Korean families still are
poverty-stricken and homeless as
a result of the Korean War. They
exist on the barest necessities of
life and must wage a constant
struggle for survival against cold,
hunger and disease. Those cast
off items of clothing which you
have pushed back in the closets
or stored in the attic would be
a Godsend to these destitute peo
ple. All items of clothing, espec
ially children’s clothing, regard
less of style or condition, and
particularly shoes, sweaters, and
clothing made of wool are need
ed. Toys both new or second
hand, and school supplies of all
kinds would also be greatly ap
preciated.
The United States has already
established a reputation here in
Korea and elsewhere for genero
sity and good will. Lending a
friendly hand and a willingness
to help our more unfortunate fel
low man are traditional Ameri
can qualities that I’m sure we all
want to perpetuate.
If you care to participate in
this Christmas Program please
address your packages as follows
so that my unit will get the cre
dit;

Ga. Farm Ponds
Built Under ACP
Tripled in 1954
The Agricultural Conservation
Program aided in building more
farm ponds in Georgia last year
than in any three previous years,
according to figures released by
John F. Bradley, state adminis
trative officer for the Agricultur
al Stabilization and Conservation
committee.
Bradley said farmers in the
state received $396,000 in federal
ACP cost-sharing for construct
ing 1,998 ponds for livestock wa
ter and irrigation during 1954.
“Os these,” he added, “86 were
built primarily for irrigation.”
The ASC administrative officer
estimates that about one out of
every five farm ponds in the
state was built with ACP cost-

ing road up Colorado’s Pikes Peak for a
new NAS “'AR* certified record—the
first time that old King of the Mountains
has seen a new official stock car record in
years! And what a road! 170 chilling
turns and no guardrail! It’s the first and
only time a new model ever proved itself
such a great road car before its introduc

of performance that makes driving safer
and more fun. So wait for the car that
beat the King of the Mountains!
