CHEROKEE CAPITAL

Restoration has begun on the national capital of the great
Cherokee Indian tribe at New Echota where its assembly
met from 1819-38 when the U.S. broke its treaty under gold
rush pressure and drove the 17,000 Cherokees westward -
Here, too, Sequoyah introduced his ingenious Cherokee al
phabet, many of whose original characters are still used by
«the International Phonetics Association. First restoration
step will be removal to New Echota of famed Vann’s Tavern
near Gainesville. Rich not only in Cherokee lore, Gordon
County ranks high in chenille manufacturing and cotton
production per acre.
In Gordon County and throughout Georgia, the UJS.
Brewers Foundation works constantly to assure the sale of
beer and ale under pleasant, orderly conditions. Believing
that strict law enforcement serves the best interests of the
people of Georgia, the Foundation stresses close cooperation
with the Armed Forces, law enforcement and governing
officials in its continuing "self-regulation” program.
