ID GEORGIA COUNTIES
Stephens County —x-.
INDIAN HISTORY AND fl
BUSINESS HUSTLE
Site of an Indian-country fortress, Stephens County is today
one of Georgia’s bright industrial and agricultural stars.
Jarrett Manor, massive fort-like house built in 1782 by Jesse
Walton and still standing, was attacked for four days by
Indiana who finally massacred the whole Walton family ex
cept one son. Modern Toccoa, Stephens County Seat, is
proud to count a huge ultra-modern thread finislung plant,
am ploying 1,800, among its booming industries. Beautiful
Toccoa Falla is located on the campus of Toccoa Falls Insti
tute, self-supporting student cooperative school.
In Stephens County and throughout Georgia, the United
States Brewers Foundation works constantly to assure the
sale of beer and ale under pleasant, orderly conditions. Be
lieving that strict law enforcement serves the best interest of
the people of Georgia, the Foundation stresses close coopera
tion with the Armed Forces, law enforcement and governing
officiate in its continuing "self-regulation” program.

League Post
MACON — Fred W. Sturges,
who took a prominent part in the
formation of the Georgia Con
servation League, and who rec
ently was elected to his second
term as president of the league,
resigned Sunday.
Bernard Freeman of Washing
ton, Ga., was named to succeed
him and James Bentley, secretary,
was named vice-president to
succeed Freeman. Ed Williams of
Athens was elected secretary.
The action was taken at a
meeting of the directors of the
league in Macon. Col. Charles
H. S. Russell of Blackshear, exe
cutive secretary of the league,
was among those attending.
Sturges, whose family will re
main in Macon until he establishes
headquarters in Florida, will re
present Florida sportmen and
the 15,000 members of the Flori
da Federation as legislative re
presentative.
Freeman is president of the
Wilkes County Wildlife Club and
a member of the board of gover
nors of the Little River Valley
Wildlife Federation, comprised of
clubs in 16 counties.
It takes a lot of courage to
admit that sometimes you don’t
have any.
