ACL Industrial Agent Sees
Great South Ga. Potential

Tuesday night heard Julian H.
Lines, one of the top experts in
the nation on industrial location,
discuss the subject, “The Indus
trial Potential of South Georgia.”
Mr. Lines, industrial agent
with the Atlantic Coast Line
Railroad, is from New York City.
He told Blackshear Rotarians
that the industrial potential of
South Georgia is “unlimited.” In
order to achieve the potential, he
said, local communities should

study their own natural and hu
man resources and tell their
story to industries seeking new
locations.
“New industry for an area
cannot be handled haphazardly,”
Mr. Lines said. “An industry is
the result of the efforts of men
of vision and courage who blend
the ingredients of research, fi
nance, human and material re
sources, into marketable com
modities an^ raise the standard
of living of every one of us.”
South Georgians should study
their resources for timber, vege
table crops, their climate, labor
market and recreational facili
ties, Mr. Lines said.
• He mentioned possibilities for
development of mineral resourc
es, including - the discovery of
mineral deposits near Folkston
that may be mined by the Du-
Pont Company.
Mr. Lines is the son-in-law of
Jack Williams, editor and pub
lisher of the Waycross Journal-
Herald. He has been instrument
al in bringing a number of new
industries to cities in Georgia
and Florida.
The ACL industrial agent de
clared that too many communi-
ties which seek industdy use the
same story, with too many gen
eralities. Most communities do
not give too much help or in
formation to potential industrial
prospects, he said. A new, fresh
approach is needed, Mr. Lines
stated. , . .
Water is one of the greatest
assets Georgia has for attracting
industry, Mr. Lines said. He
mentioned the many streams in
the state which flow with plenty
of usable water but with little
or no industry making use of this
potential. .
Mr. Lines was accompanied to
Blackshear by' his father-in-law,
Mr. Williams of Waycross. S. D.
Nimmer introduced the speaker.
