“WHEN IT IS DARK ENOUGH. MEN SEE THE STARS”
This warmly beautiful sentence penned by Ralph Waldo
Emerson, has more and more significance as the days slip by.
It appears, in fact, that Emerson may have dedicated to all
posterity a message for the strong and the spiritually mature.
It can reasonably be considered that strength and maturity are
by-products of bad times, not good times. And, despite the ap
parent horn of plenty, the deep freezes and the chrome-heavy
cars, these are, in a sense, bad times.
Our is an age of electronic gadgetry; of great and rapid
strides in any scientific field you care to name. It is an age, too,
of nuclear horizons far beyond our comprehension which pose
the alternate promises of staggering benefits for all mankind
or a long step backward into an indescribable jungle of our
own making. It is because of this uncertainty that we can
hope that it is, indeed, dark enough to see the stars.

Meet the year’s smartest station wagon
set! Chevrolet brings you five new wagons
for ’sß—all long, low and loaded with news.
They’re more than nine inches longer,
dramatically lower. They set a new style

wagons that ever took to the road. The
liftgate is hinged into the roof and raises
